HeartLand, LLC is seeking a highly motivated and data-driven professional to join our growing Human Resources team as a Talent Acquisition Specialist.

The Opportunity:
The HeartLand Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for finding the best available talent and bringing them into the HeartLand family of companies. The Talent Acquisition Specialist partners in implementing recruiting strategies to source qualified candidates for select roles. The Talent Acquisition Specialist helps create and refine processes to ensure a positive candidate experience throughout, while working closely with hiring managers and Human Resources professionals in HeartLand operating companies in supporting recruiting activities throughout all Heartland Companies for management, supervisory, professional, and administrative positions.
The role reports to the Talent Acquisition Manager. The Talent Acquisition Specialist focuses on three areas:
Recruiting & Hiring for HeartLand and Operating Company Positions
- Conduct Kickoff Calls with hiring managers to determine mindset and skillset required for the open positions, along with other requirements to ensure the proper candidate fit.
- Work with hiring managers to refine job descriptions, create enticing job postings, and publish those postings in the most effective channels for the given role.
- Source and conduct initial screening of candidates from all recruiting channels.
- Conduct phone screens, arrange interviews with hiring managers and team, and arrange assessments (as directed), including performing all scheduling of interviews and meetings.
- Ensure proper pre-employment activities are completed for all new hires, including applications, reference and background checks, MVR checks (where applicable), drug tests, and offer letters.
- Maintain open and constant communication with operating company hiring managers throughout the recruiting and hiring process.
- Coordinate and direct the activities of any outsourced recruiter(s).
- Work with operating companies to source and screen interns for the summer internship program.
Develop Recruiting Tools & Resources
- Utilize job description, job posting, and advertising channel templates for positions which are recruited for heavily.
- Utilize and distribute candidate screening and evaluation tools which can be used at HeartLand and by Human Resources professionals in the HeartLand family of companies.
- Assist in establishing relationships with schools, universities, and other organizations to identify and recruit qualified candidates.
- Assist with career fair schedule and coordinate attendance by local and HeartLand employees as necessary.
Applicant Tracking System & Hiring Practices
- Maintain company’s applicant tracking system, ensuring maximum utilization of the system tools to enable scalable recruiting services.
- Train operating company applicant tracking system users through one-on-one training and via e-learning modules, with support from the Training & Development team.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and corresponding government rules and regulations regarding all recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding practices.
Key Performance Metrics
The Talent Acquisition Specialist will largely be evaluated on their ability to obtain great talent into the organization that will be long-term fits, but specifically according to the following:
- Days to fill on positions which were assigned to the Talent Acquisition team.
- Retention rate of positions that were recruited for and filled by the Talent Acquisition team.
- Promotion rate of hires from positions actively recruited and filled by the Talent Acquisition team.

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
- Have at least two years of professional recruiting experience and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
- Exceptional communication skills: specifically writing skills to be able to create enticing job postings leading to significant candidate interest and verbal communication skills to be able to quickly but politely make a determination on candidate fit for a role.
- Be an effective communicator with all levels of the organization.
- Be able to develop and implement scalable recruiting services.
- Be versatile and adaptable to a constantly changing and entrepreneurial environment.
- Have an attitude of always looking to improve upon what we are doing and how; and along the way, celebrating and recognizing the improvements.
- Be extremely organized to simultaneously recruit for many open positions at the same time.
- Be proficient with all commonly used computer applications in a general office environment and extensive experience with Applicant Tracking Systems and understanding of HRIS offerings.
