Tax Research Manager manages the tax research and planning functions of an organization. Researches tax regulation implications on the organization. Being a Tax Research Manager analyzes tax data to help minimize tax cost and comply with all present and future regulatory requirements. May have a legal background in tax regulation. Additionally, Tax Research Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director or top executive. The Tax Research Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Tax Division Overview:
The Tax Division is responsible for fostering voluntary compliance and narrowing the tax gap by identifying, educating, and auditing noncompliant taxpayers. The Tax Division audits the filed tax returns of businesses and individuals. Tax Division audits include (but are not limited to) returns for corporate excise, sales/use tax, meals tax, rooms occupancy, personal income and special fuels tax.
Description:
The Multistate Audit Bureau conducts audits of large corporations doing business in Massachusetts with headquarters outside of Massachusetts. Multistate conducts principally corporate excise and sales/use audits and has two physical offices and multiple teleworker locations throughout the continental United States.

An external candidate recommended for a position with the Department of Revenue will be subject to a background check that includes checks for: state and federal tax compliance; child support compliance; education verification; Massachusetts CORI checks; criminal background checks in state(s) of current and previous residence/employment; validation of eligibility to work in the United States; and national fingerprint-based criminal background checks.
As part of the Future of Work initiative, the agency is adopting a hybrid work model. Hybrid work is a mix of in-office work and telework. This position will work remotely some days and in-person on other days.
