Teacher High School prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned secondary school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring a High School Band Teacher for Sexton High School. This individual will ensure our 9th-12th grade students receive world-class band instruction and experience throughout their time in the District. Our teachers must also work to build safe, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and work collaboratively towards common learning goals. Teachers will work alongside other teachers, parents, and students to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in music education or related field
    • Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with specialty endorsement (will be required to enroll in program if don't currently possess)
    • Previous successful band teaching experience in urban setting

    • Demonstrate passion for and expertise of high school band
    • Provide world-class instruction in band
    • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
    • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
    • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
    • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission

    $22,677 - $46,000 a year
    This role is a 0.5 FTE role. You will be asked to work 4 hours a day each day of the week. There is a chance for this role to become full time in the future if additional students are recruited into the band program.
