In addition to teaching in the classroom, caseload includes some periods of one to one student instruction through the Focus Program which provides daily one to one instruction to students in a variety of areas such as reading, writing, executive functioning and problem solving.
Winston Preparatory School is searching for excellent candidates for full-time Classroom and Focus Teachers at the Norwalk CT campus. These openings are for Fall 2023. Below is a bit of background information regarding our school and the available positions.
Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed day school for 4th through 12th grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders and executive functioning problems. Our mission is to facilitate the independence of individuals with learning difficulties through assessment-driven individualized education, research and outreach.
Our unique educational program for 4th-12th grade students with learning differences is designed to develop essential skills and challenge his or her strengths. As part of our learning program, every student benefits from the Focus Program, in which each student receives a daily period of one-to-one instruction concentrating on his or her greatest areas of need. The implementation of the program allows us to further personalize instruction and strategies increasing student achievement and skills set such as improved self- awareness and advocacy skills.
Focus teachers provide individualized remediation for students struggling with a wide-range of learning differences, while coordinating and facilitating consistent communication between classroom teachers and families. Classroom teachers deliver instruction in core content areas (Math, Science, English/Language Arts, History/Social Studies, etc.) with a focus on flexibly integrating a wide range of skills and content tailored to the individual needs of student class groupings.
The successful candidate will be a highly skilled, creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment. Candidates must also have excellent writing and communication skills.
The nature of the position allows for someone with a varied background. Currently, WPS faculty staff includes traditional educators, special educators, social workers, reading specialists, SLP’s, learning specialists, school psychologists. Our classroom teachers have equally diverse and interesting backgrounds.
