K-6 Self-Contained Classroom Teachers

Southeast Ohio Classical Academy (SOCA) is a classical charter school opening in Logan, Ohio, for the 2024-2025 school year. SOCA is a Hillsdale Member School through the Barney Charter
School Initiative. SOCA will initially serve grades K-6 and grow to K-12 by adding one grade level each year.

SOCA is now hiring founding faculty and staff members for its inaugural school year who will embody and execute the mission of Southeast Ohio Classical Academy:

To train the minds and cultivate the hearts of young men and women in moral character and civic virtue from a classical curriculum in the liberal arts and sciences.

Each staff and faculty member at Southeast Ohio Classical Academy is respected as a professional of the learning community. Staff and faculty are expected to live as role models for the parents who have entrusted our team with their children for formative instruction and care.

The K-6 Classroom Teacher is responsible for the education of a class of approximately 20 students. This individual must serve as an exemplar of SOCA’s Core Virtues and actively seek to develop strong moral character in students. The K-6 Classroom Teacher prepares for and leads instruction in the core subject areas of the classical curriculum: English, Mathematics, History, and Science. English includes instruction in literacy, grammar, and literature.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

● Planning and teaching purposeful content-rich and language-rich lessons.
● Communicating frequently and consistently with parents about students’ behavioral and academic progress.
● Communicating with parents about classroom events.
● Continuously improving instruction and content knowledge through coaching, professional development, and independent study.
● Creating a classroom culture of decorum, studiousness, order, joy, and wonder.
● Maintaining high expectations for both academics and behavior through a commitment to school-wide policies and procedures and the classical model.

Required qualifications and characteristics of a K-6 Classroom Teacher:

● Bachelor's degree or above in any subject area
● Familiarity with best practices in pedagogy, particularly in literacy instruction
● Knowledge of the classical model of education
● A high moral character that models the Core Virtues of SOCA
● A love of learning

Desirable qualifications and characteristics of a K-6 Classroom Teacher:

● Experience in a classical model of education
● Training in an Orton-Gillingham approach to phonics
