Full Time Classroom Assistants- Lower School, (updated February 2024)

The classroom assistants at Rosarian Academy are guides who help direct his/her students’ activities academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically in a prepared environment that challenges each child to reach his/her fullest potential in these developmental areas, in accordance with the philosophy and procedures for the age group in which the assistant is placed. The assistant is also responsible for helping maintain the operation of the classroom in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines and requirements. The classroom assistant performs his/her services under the direction of the lead teacher and supervision of the Director of Lower School.

Responsibilities Include:

• Supporting the Lead Teacher in the development, implementation and assessment of a Learning Environment
• Working collaboratively and productively with Lead Teacher and other staff members
• Actively participate in professional development, faculty meetings and events
• Supervising children on the playground
• Assist with pick up and drop off as necessary
• Maintaining order and cleanliness of the Learning Environment
• Providing direct instruction and/or remedial help as directed by the Lead Teacher

Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree preferred (but not required)
• Experience in a classroom learning environment required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Organized, flexible and team-oriented
• Ability to work effectively with preschool / elementary children
• Willingness to learn
• Completion of 45-Hour Child Care Training Course as required by DCF preferred
• CPR and First Aid Certification preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Be able to work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and a varied and diverse array of contacts
• Be able to repetitively bend and kneel
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
• Be able to stand and move around for prolonged periods of time
