Clinical Teaching Associate - Part-Time

  • Job Summary
    Contributes to classroom and clinical instruction in collaboration with and under the direction of the primary instructor/program director and the Dean of Nursing.  Provides high quality instruction and engagement with students in the clinical and/or lab settings in order to assist them in meeting course outcomes.  Collaborate with the Dean and primary instructor to determine student progression.
     
    Essential Duties
    1. Assists the primary instructor in organizing and preparing the lab area for instruction.
    2. Instructs smaller cohorts of students and supervises clinical experiences in long-term care settings. Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds, and engages with students to provide a meaningful presence in their clinical learning and in their achievement of course outcomes. 
    3. Demonstrates required skills to students, and assists students in practicing skills using a standard skills checklist.
    4. Assists the primary instructor in organizing final return-demonstration of skills
    5. Records student demonstrated proficiency with skills.
    6. Evaluates student performance in nursing lab and/or clinical, using approved program student evaluation tools.
    7. Communicates students' clinical and lab progress, concerns, and absences to the primary instructor, nurse administrator, or dean as appropriate. 
    8. Completes instructional duties, reports, and paperwork assigned.
    9. Keeps professionally current by participating in professional development and other activities.
     
    Additional Duties
    1.  Performs all other duties as assigned.
     Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Current unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license or practical nurse license (LPN) in the State of Oregon, or a current unencumbered RN or LPN license in another state and ability to be licensed in the State of Oregon prior hire date and maintained throughout employment

    Experience/Training: 
    • Minimum (1) year of experience as a licensed nurse
    • Current driver's license, insurance, and the ability to be insured by the college's insurance carrier. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history
    • Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card prior to hire date and maintain throughout employment
    • Documentation of immunizations prior to hire date and maintain as required throughout employment
    Desired Qualifications
    • Experience with teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student
    • populations
    • Experience in a long-term care nursing setting 
    Additional Requirements:
    • Must be able to work flexible hours with some weekends and/or evenings
    • Must submit a drug screen upon hire
    • Submission of a background check in addition to the College’s standard check may be required based on clinical site
     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing 
    • Knowledge of nursing skills and the role of the scope of practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse
    • Knowledge of methods of assessment and evaluation of student's nursing skills and care of client in a clinical setting.
    • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and economically
    • diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to work independently in handling multiple tasks, priorities and changing deadlines
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
    • Ability to utilize a computer and any necessary software 
    Working Conditions
    Work is typically performed in a classroom and clinical healthcare setting.

    Salary
    Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement.  Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.

    Part-time Instructors may teach classes within a variety of programs, including credit-based, Community Education, and ABE, GED, and ESL programs. There is no guaranteed minimum teaching load or hours worked.

    Credit-based classes: Part-time Instructors for credit-based classes are paid per instructional load credit (ILC) according to the salary schedule below. Salary level will be based on educational level and total accumulated ILCs as part-time instructors at the College; initial placement will not exceed Level 2.
