BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE Associate Dean of Instruction works closely with, and advocates for faculty and staff to ensure that instructional services are of high quality, effective for student learning outcomes and responsive to the college and community. Reporting to the Vice President of Instruction (VPI), the position will oversee a mix of career training/professional technical instructional programs at South Campus.
The Associate Dean has first line responsibilities to all employees within their instructional division areas, manages the unit budgets, and oversees the development of the annual schedule and the assignment of faculty.

Essential Functions
- Provide leadership and oversight for the instructional programs in their respective areas, as assigned.
- Effectively manage and monitor the unit program budgets and equipment inventory.
- Maintain and build effective internal and external relationships with staff, faculty, industry, and community partners.
- Research and develop new instructional programs in collaboration with the VPI.
- Resolve or assist in the resolution of conflict, problems, and complaints in a manner that supports students and faculty.
- Initiate corrective action/discipline in accordance with established procedures.
- Be knowledgeable of college policies, processes, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Oversee the development of the programs of study and master course outlines and the quarterly and annual schedules with faculty.
- Provide leadership and facilitation support for the ongoing evaluation of instructional programs.
- Oversee curriculum and course development; work with faculty to update and revise course and program outcomes.
- Hire, onboard, mentor, and develop faculty and staff; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned faculty and staff.
- Represent the unit in institutional activities and initiatives, works with colleagues from other units, educational organizations, businesses, and community organizations.
- Support college student achievement practices to ensure student access, enrollment retention, completion, and progression.
- Participate actively and collaboratively in student recruitment.
- Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and/or ensures students are prepared for and can obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
- Actively contribute to and participates in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
- Fosters strong interpersonal relationships with faculty and staff which support and honor the strengths, areas of expertise, identities, and potentials of everyone.
- Actively listens to faculty and staff needs and concerns and works collaboratively to practice consensus-based decision-making.
Non-Essential/Other Functions
- Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
- Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.
- Additional activities, duties and responsibilities may be added with or without notice to meet college needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position oversees Faculty and Professional Technical/Classified employees.

- Valid Washington State Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for reimbursable travel

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree; and
- One year of leadership or supervisorial experience
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.

- Teaching Experience
- Administrative or management experience at a community or technical college
- Experience managing budgets
- Experience developing and/or overseeing new instructional programs
- Grant writing and management experience
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and manage multiple projects and initiatives
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
