Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. Summary
The Director of Library Services coordinates all programs in the school relating to library services by
performing the following tasks and duties personally or through delegated members of the
faculty. Other tasks and duties may be assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains congruency between the school's board-approved mission statement and all
services provided to students, parents and staff.*
Provides vision for the growth and maintenance of Canterbury School's libraries.*
Oversees the maintenance and expansion of the electronic and print collections in the School's libraries.*
Acts as the academic coordinator in regards to research services provided to students and staff.*
Works closely with the division Directors and faculty to support research initiatives.*
Promotes and provides support for reading and writing for pleasure, and lifelong learning.*
Acts as a resource for administrators and faculty in the identification and use of academic resources.*
Observes, instructs, supervises and assists students with research.*
Regulates and communicates with faculty, parents and families regarding opportunities available in the libraries.*
Provides ongoing support and trains faculty and staff in regards to research.*
Provides educational opportunities to all constituencies in the school regarding reading and writing by hosting book discussions.*
Serves on school committees as required.*
Prepares, in collaboration with other librarians, an annual budget for the libraries.*
Supports the school and its leadership.*
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School.*
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises the Ellenberg Library Assistant.
Qualifications

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical
inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

to practical situations.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety
of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of
Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word
Processing software.
