Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Technical Librarian work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Technical Librarian typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.     • Location: Vandenburg Space Force Base, CA.
    • Salary will depend on experience.

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship or U.S. naturalization.

    This position is not eligible for remote work.

    Essential Functions
    • Create end-user documents in accordance with the company’s strategies and standards under direct supervision.  
    • Process publications from initiation to release under direction of Senior Publication Specialist. 
    • Perform Technical Order (TO) development and changes using Adobe Frame Maker, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Illustrator based on a technical data package consisting of an Engineering Change Proposal (ECP), engineering drawings, and Logistics Management Information (LMI) data.
    • Partner with Engineers, Product Support Analysts, Drafters, and internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to update technical publications, operating manuals, user guides and quick reference material.
    • Participate in process reviews, Certifications, Verifications and or Rapid Action Changes (RAC) of Technical Manuals (TMs) with operators and peers.
    • Process Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) TMs as TOs using the Contractor Furnished Equipment Notice (CFEN) process. 
    • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and provide support to Technical Order Guidance Conferences (TOGCs)
    • Perform related duties as required, e.g., support to product support/integrated logistics functions.
    • Perform data and configuration management activities associated with implementation of Technical Manuals.
    • Other duties as assigned.
     
    Required Skills
    • Ability to effectively work in a team environment and perform work and resolve problems under direct supervision.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with specific emphasis on attention to detail.

    Required Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in documentation or publication, preferably in a Sustaining or Development Engineering environment.
    • Experience in Adobe FrameMaker, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional, and Microsoft Office applications, or other Desktop Publishing Programs.
    • Working knowledge of materials, components, assemblies, computer, and peripheral hardware designs – parts.
    • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, e.g., Windchill or equivalent - preferred.
    • Experience with S1000D authoring and publishing – preferred.
     
    Additional Eligibility Qualifications
    • Ability to travel to remote sites on occasion, e.g., Pillar Point Air Force Station, and Pt. Mugu.
    • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship or U.S. naturalization
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required
