Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Technical Librarian work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Technical Librarian typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. ON-CALL POSITION - HOURS MAY VARYProvides information services, including research assistance, readers' advisory and instruction.
Provides circulation and information services; assists in delivery of library programs, services, and/or projects. Primary responsibilities fulfilled at a public service desk that serves customers of all ages. This position is on-call; hours and location of work will vary to best serve the needs of the library customers.
Responds to customer concerns and disputes; resolves issues if possible, or refers to supervisor.
Performs customer account tasks that may include account registration, basic circulation functions, placing holds and interlibrary loan requests, and accepting payment and making change.
Markets and promotes library programs and services through conversation with customers.
May assist in planning, coordination, and delivery of library programs.
May provide work direction to staff and volunteers; serves as lead worker in the absence of the Branch Manager or designee.
Works in all branches of the Library system as the needs of service dictate.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, including evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays.Requires a bachelor's degree -OR- 2 years of public library experience. MLS and broad-based public library experience recognized. Excellent interpersonal communication, customer service and problem-solving skills are needed.Selection for this position will be based on a minimum qualifications screening and rating of training and experience.
