The Technical Support Specialist works under the direction of the Director of Information Systems The Technical Support Specialist will perform assigned tasks of increasing complexity in the installation, maintenance, and administration of software/hardware having organization-wide impact of systems, database, or network (LAN/WAN) system support.
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university.
Area Study (major) Required: Computer science, Information Systems and Decision Sciences (ISDS), Management Information Systems (MIS) or related technical field.
Certification(s) Required: N/A
License(s) Required: Valid Driver's License
Years Relevant Work Experience: Four (4) years work related experience in IT, infrastructure, desktop support, security, LAN/WAN, and/or database administration. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of Information Systems and Applications
- Knowledge of Wide Area Networks
- Knowledge of Microsoft Client and Server Operating Systems and Active Directory
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, and Microsoft SharePoint Server
- High in customer service and the ability to deal with the public with tact and courtesy
- Skill in computer programming or scripting language
- Skill in introductory training & instruction of end users
- Excellent decision-making skills to respond to balance the interests of clients and customer demands

Essential Functions and Job Duties:- Provides technical support and assistance to end users on hardware issues and desktop (PC) applications.
- Installs and maintains servers, computers, hardware and PC software for users.
- Assist in monitoring performance and efficiency of an enterprise network
- Assists in monitoring and analyzing network, hardware, database, and system activity.
- Implement and maintains a database security, maintenance utilities, and documentation
- Attends formal training in systems software programming; studies hardware configuration operating, system designs, and software programming languages.
- Determines value in legacy equipment and recommends new or upgraded enhancements to existing hardware and systems.
- Verify that all custom software installed on clients is at the most current version, and that all clients are running the same version.
- Research enhancements and improvements in existing software and recommend updates and upgrades of software.
- Train end-users on custom software and standard Microsoft applications and operating systems as needed
- Assists with IS Plan development and implementation.
- Perform work in accordance with knowledge of BREC operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
