Anti-Submarine Tactical Air Controller (ASTAC) Trainer

  • OVERVIEW:

    The successful Candidate will develop, organizes, and conducts training and educational programs for Fleet sailors in support of Surface Combat Systems Training Command. Training program requires ability to conduct traditional classroom instruction and support tactical lab training.
    The Candidate will serve as an Anti-Submarine Tactical Air Controller (ASTAC) Instructor to train fleet ASTAC’s in tactical employment of the Anti-Submarine Warfare/Anti-Surface Unit Warfare (ASW/ASUW) Air Assets to include the SH-60R and P-8 Poseidon Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) air frames. When required, the candidate would provide subject matter expertise in support of curriculum development for SCSTC courses supporting the operational employment of the ASW/ASUW assets available to the fleet.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides dynamic teaching and training as well as assessment that require advanced knowledge of ASW/ASUW air control tactics and procedures for all Aegis baselines.

    • Reviews and analyzes ASW/ASUW air tactics and procedures IAW U.S. Navy Operational and Tactical procedures. Integrates and conceptualizes the execution of operational and tactical procedures, optimizing the application of ship's Air Control capabilities and limitation in the dynamic ASW/ASUW operational tactical environment.

    • Conducts dynamic assessment of the sailors’ abilities to comply with approved operational and tactical procedures, and ships Battle Orders and thereafter provides formal appraisal of performance with recommendations for improvement and methods to maintain tactical and procedural proficiency.

    • Observes and assesses contemporaries during Practice and Certification Teaches per requirements NAVEDTRA 135.

    • Prepares, reviews, and customizes curriculum lesson plans and instructor guides in support of traditional classroom teaching.

    • Supports Course Reviews and Curriculum Updates, conducts training gap analysis, and provides formal feedback and recommendations for course improvement.

    • Documents the training conducted with specifics of the individual areas / watch station and is responsible for generation of a formal assessment of measure of success via written report.

    • Develops, tests, maintains, and delivers moderately complex ASW/ASUW training scenarios, training programs and related materials in support of SCSTC training objectives.

    • Establishes and reviews course content and objectives.

    • Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities.

    • Maintains records of training activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness.

    • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Seven (7) years of experience with the required system (ASW/ASUW) Air Assets as an Anti-Submarine Tactical Air Controller (ASTAC) or supervisor with responsibility for teaching the applicable systems or function task to others in an advanced level training environment.

    • Of the seven years, one (1) year of experience as an instructor in a Navy Training Environment, to include presentation skills, public speaking, curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction and counseling students on academic learning problems.

    • Additional qualification: Must be able to support training with extended periods on your feet while instructing. Prior SCSTC/ATRC/TACTRAGRU instructor experience is a significant plus. Travel may be up required to 10 % of time. Shiftwork may be required.

    Security:

    • Must currently possess Secret Security clearance, Interim clearances are not Acceptable

    Desired Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience

    Salary Range:

    • $75,000 USD - $80,000 USD. However, Solvere considers factors such as (but not limited to) the following when determining base pay: scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s related work experience, education/training/certifications, key skills, internal peer equity/external market competitiveness, as well as other business considerations.
