    SUMMARY OF POSITION

     Establish training schedules for all of the HJDRC, document and establish reports on all training, and maintain training records for the facility. Train new hires on HJDRC policies and procedures and use best practice training methods for all HJDRC staff. Collect and estimate information from staff on previous training to identify core competencies and areas that need improvement and development. Attend additional training to learn new training methods and use the knowledge to coordinate future trainings. Establish new Trainers, assign training duties and responsibilities to the new Trainers and assess performance. Highlight training opportunities to staff and provide information on training to encourage contribution and involvement. Acknowledge and maintain a training schedule for staff and track their progress. Advocate for training materials and new trainings, order and maintain in-house training equipment and facilities.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

    • Handle orientation and initial training for all new-hires in the facility, including scheduling new staff for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s (FLETC) Indian Policy Academy Correctional Program.
    • Assign staff as Field Training Officers (FTO) and evaluate and monitor their progress and be actively involved with their development throughout their HJDRC employment.
    • Train new staff on 216 hours of in-house orientation training. Lead exercises in scenario based incidents. Use evaluators, role-players and instructors, and help plan the training program used to provide quality, realistic, hands-on training for new employees.
    • Look for new, high-quality training curriculum to provide to the HJDRC and ensure staff meet their minimum annual training hours to maintain certification.
    • Maintain all training hours through Relias, and be responsible for coordinating all training, including registrations, hotel reservations and anything else that requires scheduling for training.
    • Work with the Field Training Officers to assist with facility training.
    • Work with the facility personnel to make suggestions to the Facility Administrator as required concerning promotions, reassignments, performance appraisals, and personnel needs.
    • This position is highly demanding, as facility security, staff, and youth safety and care, are directly dependent on the Training Coordinator teaching officer's skills in behavior management, leadership, crisis intervention, mediation, demonstration of fairness in all dealings with staff and youth offenders, observation, time and task management, service referrals, and documentation.
    • This position involves a wide array of complex tasks related to most aspects of facility security and youth custody.
    • Make sure staff understand youth Crimes can range from misdemeanor offenders to violent youth awaiting transfer to Federal courts and/or incarceration.
    • Make sure staff are reviewing Policy and Procedure annually, as well as annually reviewing and revising as needed with HJDRC Leadership Team.
    • Assist with administrative duties, as needed.
    • Must be able to serve as a positive role model for fellow staff and youth.
    • Other duties assigned.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education & Experience:

    • High School Diploma or G.E.D (College credits relating to Criminal Justice or another higher education related field preferred)
    • Training and Development: 3 years preferred
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex and exigent training curriculum


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

    • Communicate clearly in written and oral mediums.
    • Must have knowledge of the culture, challenges, and opportunities facing Native American youth and their family unit.
    • Must be able to use Microsoft Office dynamics: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Must be able to influence staff through effective communications.


    Other:

    • Must be able to attend trainings and travel while employed with organization.
    • Must be 21 years of age.
    • Must pass a background investigation.
    • Must possess a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
    • Must possess a current/valid driver’s license.
    • Must be able to pass or meet tribal insurance policy and procedures.
    • Must be certified in the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s (FLETC) Indian Policy Academy Correctional Program within first 3 years of employment.
