Position Summary
The Outreach Coordinator is responsible to the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program Director for all outreach, recruitment, and public relations efforts related to the VUB program.
The Outreach Coordinator will also provide services to incoming and active participants. While this position has an outreach focus, a significant portion of the role involves serving veteran students within the VUB office space.
VUB serves veterans entering any college of their choice and assists with admissions, financial aid, educational benefits, academics, and other resources.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide proactive support to veterans and active service members throughout their transition into higher education and the admissions process to the college of their choice.
- Responsible for all recruitment and outreach efforts for the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program.
- Serve as primary public relations contact for the VUB program, ensuring dissemination of project information to the community and potential participants.
- Oversee candidate application and entry process, ensuring prospective participants meet Department of Education VUB program entry requirements.
- Responsible for data collection related to the recruiting and candidate intake process.
- Facilitate community and service provider partnerships.
- Collaborate with OTC’s Public Relations Office and other appropriate college departments to support outreach activities related to the VUB program.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- Comply with college policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
- Veterans Upward Bound is 100% federally funded through a TRIO grant from the US Department of Education at $309,476 annually.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, communication or a related field.
- One year of experience in education, social work, counseling, recruitment, or public relations.
- Experience facilitating partnerships that cross multiple community sectors.
- Experience and sensitivity in serving disadvantaged groups including veterans, low-income, first-generation, or academically disadvantaged students.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of TRIO programs and services.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.
- Experience with Colleague.
- Experience with Salesforce Management.

Environment : Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing;
sometimes requires adjustment of schedule to include some evening and / or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.
Physical : Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time;
to lift, carry, push, and / or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
