The Technical Writer focuses primarily on identifying, developing, and delivering documentation needs that enhance the operational efficiency of the College through daily operations. This position works closely with various departments and stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure that the documentation aligns with the strategic goals of the organization.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Establishes and maintains shared knowledge base system.
a. Researches, recommends, and implements coordinated technology-supported system to share knowledge collegewide through user-friendly guides, manuals, and online documentation.
b. Establishes and maintains version control and document management systems
c. Works with departments to inventory, update, and upload relevant information to the system, ensuring accuracy and alignment.
d. Works with Training and Development to train personnel to maintain and use the system.
e. Works with the Marketing department to thoroughly communicate and socialize the new system.
f. Translates complex technical concepts into easily understandable content for diverse audiences including faculty, staff and students.
g. Conducts regular reviews and updates of existing documentation to reflect changes in technology and best practices.
2. Creates content emanating from College strategic initiatives and subsequent knowledge sharing efforts.
a. Conducts thorough research to understand complex technical topics and translate them into easily understandable content for a diverse audience.
3. Collaborates with subject matter experts to assess documentation needs and design effective business documentation to support future needs.
a. Produces high-quality technical documentation, including user manuals, guides, and online help, ensuring accuracy, clarity, completeness and suitability for various user levels.
b. Uses documentation tools and software.
4. Establishes and maintains quality assurance systems.
a. Establishes and maintains systems to ensure quality assurance within the collegewide knowledge base system.
b. Reviews and edits content from self and others for clarity, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines; ensure documentation meets industry standards and best practices.
5. Manage deadliness
a. Coordinate multiple documentation projects concurrently, effectively prioritize tasks, monitor progress and meet deadlines.
6. Serve on committees and task forces as assigned.
7. Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.

10. Proficiency in documentation and knowledge base management tools and software.
11. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

14. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Computer Science or a related field plus three (3) years directly related experience, preferably in a technology or educational environment.
Equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with learning management systems and multimedia authoring tools is a plus.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Salary/Hourly Rate $56,118 minimum Department Strategic Operations and Initiatives
