We are looking for an experienced technical writer to join the MySQL HeatWave documentation team.
You will be part of a geographically distributed team, responsible for the technical documentation of all MySQL products and MySQL HeatWave cloud service. Team members are expected to work independently, requiring discipline and excellent time management skills as well as the technical facilities and experience to communicate across the Internet.
Candidates should be prepared to work intensively with engineers, support, and product management. The documentation source format is DocBook XML, but we are in the process of migrating some of the documentation to DITA. You should be prepared to work with two source formats and tool chains for that reason.
MySQL is open-source software with proprietary enterprise additions, and MySQL HeatWave is a cloud service. Generally, documentation is less about products with graphical user interfaces, but mostly about products operated via the command line or APIs. All documentation is available here. Documenting MySQL and MySQL HeatWave products, components, and services requires familiarity with many other parts of MySQL, generally with relational databases and SQL, and cloud, analytics, data lake, lakehouse and machine learning knowledges. You should either have that knowledge already, or be willing to and capable of gaining it quickly. A MySQL certification is considered an advantage.
Other qualifications you should have:
• Native English speaker or comparably good English skills, particularly in writing
• Familiarity with versioning systems and CCMSs like Git, SDL, SVN
• Comfortable working with multiple operating systems, particularly Linux, Windows, and macOS
• Ability to administer own computer and VMs
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to provide (online) samples of your work (docs, articles, blog posts, books)
