We do this by building strong communities that support families.     SUMMARY:  

    Overall responsibility for researching, writing, and submitting grant and other proposals to local, state, and national. funders - with an emphasis on federal and state government funding entities - as appropriate to the mission and goals of the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation (NCFF). 


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Coordinate proposal planning, staff and partner collaboration, and content / information gathering – including budget preparation - for assigned grant opportunities; write proposal drafts and share with affected parties for review; submit complete and accurate proposal to funding entities by deadline.  
    • Maintain knowledge of funding trends, research and data, public policy, and current topics of interest relevant to the foundation’s mission and goals. 
    • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of Nebraska Children and Families Foundation 
    • Research potential funding opportunities from public and private sources; disseminate findings of interest to staff and external partners as appropriate to Nebraska Children’s collaborative relationships. 
    • Engage in professional development opportunities to further knowledge of fundraising, grant writing, and other resource development techniques  
    • Ensure the use of current data and research findings in developing case for support to potential and existing funders 
    • Maintain knowledge of best practices and evidence-based strategies in the foundation’s community impact work 
    • Assist in identifying funding opportunities from public and private sources that fit with the mission, purposes, and resource development plans of Nebraska Children and its partners. 
    • Prepare written summaries of applicable notices of funding opportunities and forward to appropriate in-house staff and external partners 
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    Requirements

      

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

    Required:   

    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, Journalism, Language Arts, Communication, or closely related field; 
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience and/or training that includes writing public and private grant applications to major funders including state and federal government agencies;  
    • Provide verifiable portfolio of grant writing experiences and grant award successes, including those involving state and federal agency partners research, and project planning/development; 
    • This position must have experience developing 1) program designs and evaluation plans and 2) state and federal budget proposals and may be asked to provide examples of successful funding applications;  
    • This position must be a strategic systems-thinker able to draw connections between and among public and private resources which contribute to the well-being of children, youth, families, and communities in Nebraska; 
    • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

    Knowledge: 

    • Extensive knowledge of public grant writing and reporting and must understand federal and state systems, rules, and regulations governing publicly funded grant and contract programs and be able to apply them to NCFF mission. 
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure of deadlines. 
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. 
    • Ability to facilitate grant development teams towards a complete grant application. 
    • Data-oriented and able to analyze and apply data for the purpose of expressing need for and desired outcomes of grant proposal activities.  

    Abilities: 

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as grant solicitations, professional journals, financial reports governmental regulations, and legal documents.  
    • Ability to write grant proposals and progress reports, speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format as well as routine reports and correspondence.  
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries about the organization from the public and/or business community.  
    • Ability to effectively present information to public groups, top management, and/or boards of directors.   
    • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with public and private partners through grant writing and submission processes. 

    Preferred:   

    • Qualified applicants with lived experience interacting with publicly funded systems such as child welfare, juvenile justice, PreK-Postsecondary education supports and services, and/or public and behavioral health systems. 
    • Master's degree in appropriate discipline. 
    • Demonstrated experience as primary writer and editor in development of large grants as evidenced by writing portfolio and history of funding success. 
    • Higher education and community college grant writing experience.
