Specialist, Reading & Writing (DWED)
Job Description
The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation of instruction with a specialization in Reading and Writing for the Adult Career Education Services Program (ACES). This position leads the daily service and support, in the classroom assisting instructors and providing technical assistance and support.

To ensure the facility, instruction and materials are conducive to the student's educational goals/needs and to ensure students success.

Develop and/or update Reading and Writing curriculum, component, and resources i.e., tutoring, TA, workshops for digital Literacy, Aztec, online resources for ESL Basic Reading and Writing Skills, Pre-HSE and HSE classes in order to adhere to Nevada State Department of Education's regulations and standards and endure program improvement.

To review and develop instructional materials and endure that instructional objective are being met in order to ensure the quality of instruction.

Interview, hire, train, evaluate and part-time instructors.

Coordinate/work with coordinator of the Mentoring Program for new and inexperience teachers.

To ensure that qualified teachers are hired and that they receive appropriate training and supervision, and to evaluate instructors in order to ensure quality of instruction.

To determine when a new or inexperienced teacher needs to be partnered with a qualified/experienced teacher/mentor to assist them with required paperwork, to familiarize them with the curriculum, and CASAS to competencies and Test of Adult Education (TABE)

Conduct and host workshops/training for instructors on changes in curriculum, student goal setting. Federal requirements, and the National Reporting System Standards.

To update part-time instructors regarding changes in regulations in order to remain in compliance with the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act grant requirements to ensure future program funding,

Will attend DWED and program meetings, community and industry meetings as needed.

Support program needs in the areas of recruiting, student meetings, student engagement, intake/recruiting.

Maintain a clear record and history of meetings affecting the program to provide clear reference points.

Support program outcomes and success of the program.

Attend professional development seminars, NEATS training, Directors meetings, etc. and serve on CSN committees at the request of the Adult Career Education Program Manager

To meet the professional development requirements of the position, as well as requirements of the Nevada System of Higher Education. To stay current in the field of Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language.

To represent the program on CSN committees.

Interpret data in student retention and outcomes.

Review students' class/enrollment history and advise them if they are not processing or should move to a high-level program.

Provide site specific summaries to the Program Manager for grant writing, annual program evaluations, and other reports required throughout the year.

Provide input for continuous improvement of grant funded programs.

Implement procedural changes including registration procedures and marketing for main and off-site locations.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

1 to 2 years of related field experience

$38,549.00 - $41,247.00*
- This position is funded by grant dollars and is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.
