    Duties include, but not limited to, the following:

    • Operates a multi-trunk console located within telecommunications section of the Police Service
    • Handles a wide variety of calls - local, long distance, overseas, and facility emergency calls
    • Disperses callers rapidly and professionally to proper party or service within Medical Center - all callers must be treated courteously and assisted in a timely manner
    • Responsible for the monitoring, testing, and recording the results of varying alarms and systems
    • Responsible for the proficient operation of several complex computerized functions which include, multi-channel radio systems, closed circuit television system, and fire alarm system
    • Handles incoming calls approximately 50% of the time, identifying location of clinics, units, and staff members
    • Monitors a complex security closed circuit camera system that focuses on numerous locations
    • Performs other related duties, including clerical, as assigned
    Work Schedule: The switchboard operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Schedules will vary and will be discussed with the hiring manager.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet one of the following:

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes work where you were responsible for operating a telephone system and/or switchboard to receive incoming calls, monitoring and testing alarm system(s), entering data into a computer, using a paging system, and maintaining records. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~

    EDUCATION: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application. ~OR~

    COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application.

    Physical Requirements: The position requires long periods of sitting at the switch telecommunication center during heavy call periods until relieved. The employee must be physically capable of activating and visually monitoring numerous critical alarms, computers, and radio equipment in the telecommunications suite and be capable of performing clerical duties and clearly communicating emergency situations to the necessary staff.

    Work is performed in a communications type setting. There is a minimal level of noise due to other technicians answering calls, as well as panic, intrusion, fire and other critical alarms that create a certain amount of noise.
