Telecommunications Engineering Technician assists telecommunication engineers in the design and analysis of telecommunication networks. Creates plans and drawings detailing the layout of routers, circuits, cables, switches, or other telecommunications equipment. Being a Telecommunications Engineering Technician ensures network connectivity for end-users. May evaluate existing networks and recommend design changes to improve performance. Additionally, Telecommunications Engineering Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Telecommunications Engineering Technician may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. CAD Technician (Telecommunications Industry)

    Palmetto Engineering & Consulting, an employee owned, electrical engineering and telecommunications engineering consulting firm, is seeking a CAD Technician for a full-time position at our growing company. Among our many areas of engineering expertise, we specialize in fiber optic networks, fiber to cell site developments, PON, CLEC, GIS/Mapping and procuring right-of-way encroachment permits from different jurisdictions and local agencies for our clients. The successful candidate will be working closely together with a team of enthusiastic and self-driven individuals with the opportunity of making a career in the telecommunications field.


    QUALIFICATIONS AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Associate’s degree in AutoCAD or associated field OR at least 5 years of experience working with CAD software.
    • Capable of following instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
    • Proven competency in verbal and written communication
    • Ability to work independently while also being a team player
    • Knowledgeable of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Map 3D/ArcGIS for AutoCAD and other technical computer aided design platforms
    • Proven ability to deliver highly accurate and clearly understood plans and scaled drawings
    • Organized and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment


    Qualifications beneficial, but not required:

    • 3rd party CAD software experience
    • Microstation experience
    • Revit experience
    • Permitting experience
    • Knowledge in the telecommunications industry
    • Knowledge in Esri GIS platform an asset


    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to:

    • Optimize “best practices” for CAD design
    • Create and prepare detailed working plans and/or scale drawings for projects from engineering field notes
    • Produce drawings in accordance with company CAD standards and specific project and client requirements
    • Effectively communicate with CAD manager, other CAD team members, engineers, and field staff
    • Revise plans per redlines or review comments and communicate with engineering and or project manager if needed
    • Open to learning and embracing new technologies in the CAD/GIS spectrum to complete tasks related to job or assignment
