Telecommunications Engineering Technician assists telecommunication engineers in the design and analysis of telecommunication networks. Creates plans and drawings detailing the layout of routers, circuits, cables, switches, or other telecommunications equipment. Being a Telecommunications Engineering Technician ensures network connectivity for end-users. May evaluate existing networks and recommend design changes to improve performance. Additionally, Telecommunications Engineering Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Telecommunications Engineering Technician may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     • Detail oriented with the ability to follow and update project deployment documents generated by the planning and programming team.
    • The ability to successfully work as part of a deployment team to effectively cutover phones from the legacy to new telephony system.
    • Ability to read building blueprints to locate and deploy stations based on the documented plan for a series of telephone device cutovers.
    • 1 or more years' experience in the telecommunications field.
    • Experience with data networking standards and best practices in support of telephony deployments and implementation of VoIP stations.
    • Ability to handle multiple streams of work as you will be preparing phone devices for future cutover events while working on current cutover events.
    • Ability to work and interact with other members of the project team and internal Medical Center Telecommunications staff and Management to achieve project goals in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Must be able to work with technicians to resolve issues with deployment or station configurations.
    • Ability and agility necessary to inspect, validate and connect cabling to voice and data jacks which may be located under desks or other difficult to reach areas.
    • Ability to lift 50 Lbs.

    Experience in the areas below would be desired :

    • Understanding of structured cabling in a telephony environment.
    • Ability to use network tools to validate network settings at station jacks in support of a VoIP station deployment.
    • Ability to troubleshoot station wiring issues and ability to use telephone punch down tools to correct station wiring issues.

    The Telecommunications Technician will work on :

    Work as part of a project team to prepare, deploy, cutover and recover phone devices as part of a project to migrate from a legacy PBX system to an Avaya Aura PBX system.

    Work will include reviewing documentation and cutsheets to successfully deploy Avaya phone devices replacing the legacy phone devices.

    The job will require a person with an understanding of telecommunications technologies and the ability to creatively solve problems as we remove the current stations and deploy new analog, digital and VoIP telephony devices, while validating the station functionality in coordination with the planning and engineering teams.

    Start Date : ASAP - Within next 2 weeks.

    Duration : 6-months

    Location : Work will be onsite and may include working within clinical areas and around clinical staff and patients.

    Schedule : Work will include nights and weekends based on cutover schedules. Work week may be defined as Wednesday through Sunday or Thursday through Monday.

    Candidates will be required to have a flexible schedule as work may be scheduled around the times suitable for insuring the least amount of disruption to clinical services.
