The hours for this full-time skilled labor position are variable and depend on the project. Our communications technicians typically work Monday through Friday, with some nights and weekends. Steady travel is expected, some of which may be nationwide.
As a Telecommunications Installer - Telecom Installation Technician, you are the lifeblood of our company. You perform the hands-on skilled labor that enables our clients' systems to function correctly. Because a great deal of your telecommunications installation takes place in central offices nationwide, each day is different, and you enjoy interacting with a variety of people while you perform your skilled labor. Whether you're running cables, pulling, terminating, or splicing them, you love the active and intricate nature of your job. Depending on your experience, you sometimes perform your telecommunications installation, removal, or test and turn-up on your own. A self-starter, you thrive on the challenge of independently troubleshooting and tackling any problems that arise.
As your skills increase, your pay goes up and your responsibilities grow. As a level four communications technician, you supervise a team, mentoring them and assigning work duties according to your reading of the drawings and specifications. You also perform more technical work, such as IP/TDM transmissions and systems switching. In addition, you prepare the necessary documentation, including the maintenance operation protocol (MOP) and the job information memorandum (JIM). Whatever your skill level is, you accomplish your tasks in a way that makes you proud.
