Remote Status: On-Site Job Id: 1222-778B-2024 # of Openings: 1 Tectonic is currently seeking a full-time Project Manager / Resident Engineer with NICET III or higher certifications for an upcoming fire standpipe replacement project. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and opportunities to work on challenging and exciting projects.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Provides engineering and construction oversight services on multiple rail transit design-build and/or construction projects acting as Client's representative in the field with directly managing contractors, vendors, utilities, owner labor-forces, and other external parties on projects involving rail transit systems, including rail infrastructure elements such as stations, facilities, shops, yards, signal systems, communication systems, power systems, bridges and viaducts, tunnels, track systems, drainage, structural elements, fare payment systems, vertical transportation systems, security systems, and associated work;
- Supervises, coordinates, and tracks all field site activities and provides technical advice on construction and design; recommends and executes corrective actions to resolve issues;
- Responds to requests for information from contractors by interpreting plans and specifications by utilizing advanced knowledge of engineering and past experience; documents contractor performance;
- Regularly reviews and approved engineering design, plans, shop drawings, product data, other construction-phase submittals / deliverables;
- Reviews contractor payment applications and recommends approval or rejection to owner;
- Reviews validity of contractor-submitted change orders;
- Leads on-site Field Engineers and Inspectors;
- Schedules all field staff to ensure full shift coverage, coordinates Special Inspection and Testing needs, and reviews / approves daily inspection reports;
- Implements and follows Company / owner / project-specific safety and quality protocols, and participates in safety and quality meetings & audits as necessitated by the project requirements;
- Monitors the progress of the project in accordance with contract cost and schedule, including project timelines and specifications, and holds progress meetings as required;
- Ensures all project documentation is completed and submitted as required, and completes necessary project close-out processes;
- Coordinates and executes contractor access and protection requests including track outages / GOs, foul time, property access requests, flag protection, and force-account labor;
- assist or lead management of all project staff;
- All related Resident Engineering and Project Management duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS- Valid NICET III or higher certification in one or more of the following:
- Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems
- Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems / Water Based Systems Layout
- Electrical Power Testing
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Valid PE License with passing of Fire Protection Engineering Exam or Electrical and Computer: Power Engineering exam may be accepted in lieu of NICET certification;
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience;
- Ability to understand and interpret written specifications, plans, and construction documents for work orders and build documents;
- Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with clients, supervisors, office staff, and inspectors regarding project status and issues, drawings, specifications and qualification test results;
- Detail-oriented, with capability to detect non-conformities and complete detailed reports within a timely manner;
- Experience interpreting and supervising the execution of various rail and construction industry standards & requirements (national and owner-based);
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed;
- A valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to job sites is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to assume a stationary position, handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job and communicate about same. The employee is also regularly required to move around on project sites and within buildings and other structures, including ascending or descending the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning themselves appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, frequently for prolonged periods of time. For rail transit projects, the job-site will often consist of hazards associated with an operating rail transit system, including but not limited to: trains traveling at high rates of speed adjacent to the work area, electrified third rail or catenary wire, stone ballast walking surfaces, track systems including running rail, concrete or creosote-soaked timber ties, and uneven ballast surfaces. The employee is constantly working in outdoor weather conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, and precipitation.The employee will also communicate with colleagues, supervisors and clients utilizing Corporate and client e-mail and telephone systems. Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. This position also may require the regular operation of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job.
