    Description

    CCC Library seeks a collaborative and human-centered Full-time Textbook Affordability Faculty Librarian to lead textbook affordability and Open Educational Resource (OER) efforts, and to lead the library team in collection management endeavors.

    This position cultivates, executes, and sustains strategic efforts related to textbook affordability in collaboration with peers in the department, College, and at peer institutions. They will provide leadership, vision, support, and assessment of textbook affordability efforts across the College. The person in this position will create programming and form relationships with stakeholders within the institution and across the state to facilitate OER and Low-Cost Text (LCT) discovery, adoption, adaptation, and creation through advocacy, education, and outreach. This position will also work with faculty in the library and across campus to grow library support and innovation around collection practices that center textbook affordability, accessibility, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

    As described in the Full-Time Faculty Bargaining Agreement (pg 14), "Librarians will be responsible for providing library services for students, employees, and community residents. The librarians will exercise independent judgment based on adequate knowledge of library science; the instructional and professional goals of college programs; teaching theories, strategies and methods of instruction; interpersonal relationships; electronic technology; college policy; and outreach services with college staff and community."

    This position reports to the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning, and will be integrated into a collaborative team of faculty librarians to determine the direction and goals of the library and related services and programming. The CCC Library team works together to support the mission and strategic priorities of Clackamas Community College by centering student experience and need, and providing user-friendly research tools, relevant resources, library instruction, and welcoming, inclusive spaces for the CCC community. CCC Library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance Library Consortium.
    • Position may require some [reimbursed] travel.
    • Generally librarians work traditional workday hours (9-5, Monday-Friday), however there is some flexibility based on library and employee needs. Occasionally there may be a need to offer workshops or attend meetings on evenings and weekends.
    • This position may work a combination of remote and onsite hours in collaboration with other library employees, the Dean of IEP, and based on library and employee needs and college policy.
    • The first round of interviews will be through Zoom.



    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



    • Lead efforts to implement the
      CCC Textbook Affordability Plan at the recommended level, with emphasis on project management, community engagement, and peer consultation/support.

    • Develop and coordinate outreach initiatives and services designed to raise awareness of OER, LCT, library collections, and other textbook affordability strategies through programming, training, support materials, and research consultations with faculty.

    • Collaborate with faculty in the discovery, adoption, creation, and assessment of open and affordable course content that meet program and course learning outcomes.

    • Advocate for and promote OER adoption to all stakeholders (faculty, staff, students, administrators) with sensitivity to diverse perspectives, by building strategic partnerships.

    • Develop a professional development plan to stay current with advances in the field of library science and best-practices of OER, LCT, and affordable textbooks.

    • Participate in Open Oregon (Oregon's state-wide OER entity that promotes textbook affordability and facilitates adoption of LCT) and in consortial conversations related to textbook affordability.

    • Collaborate with the library team to identify library-purchased resources that would have a high impact on learning affordability and student success, and recommend purchases.

    • Guide collection management and collecting initiatives in CCC Library, focused on student and faculty support, and efforts to improve effectiveness and accessibility of electronic and physical resources, and course reserves.


    • Partner with faculty librarians on collection development and collection assessment.

    • Collaborate with the technical services librarian on collection management policies and procedures, collection acquisition workflow, resource sharing, and related staff training.

    AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:


    • Collaborate with the library team on annual library assessment and unit planning.

    • Liaise with one Educational Focus Area at the college.


    • At the invitation of the instruction librarians, lead instruction sessions for CCC's First-Year Experience program (FYE101).

    • Participate in college-wide, divisional, and departmental meetings as scheduled.

    • Teach the library's 1-credit, asynchronous course: LIB101-Introduction to Research (as interest or need arises).

    • Provide reference at the service desk, by phone, email, and/or monitoring chat (as interest or need arises).

    MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Master's degree from an ALA accredited program or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree, completed by 9/15/2022.

    • Commitment to community college values of accessible education.

    • Experience working on or an understanding of the OER and LCT landscape in an academic setting, including knowledge of best practices related to OER, LCT, and other strategies for pursuing textbook affordability.

    • Demonstrated ability to partner with faculty and other peers on projects.

    • Collection management experience, particularly focused on DEI, accessibility, and student/faculty needs.

    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and an understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.

    • Ability to plan, initiate and implement effective programs and services.

    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

    • Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience with peer-to-peer teaching and outreach (such as leading workshops or presentations, and doing consultations with faculty and administrators).

    • Previous successful work managing OER and textbook affordability efforts at the college level.

    • Experience with open publishing programs such as Pressbooks and H5P and knowledge of content management platforms such as Open Author and OpenStax.

    • General understanding of copyright, fair use, and creative commons licensing as it applies to OER and resource sharing.

    • Grant writing or grant management.

    • Experience working in an academic library.
