Director of Student Conduct & Deputy Title IX Coordinator

    The director is the chief student affairs officer responsible for administration of the student conduct system, oversight of the Student Code of Conduct, and development and implementation of educational programming relative to student conduct. In keeping with a developmental and progressive response to student conduct code violations, the director assists students in acknowledging responsibility for their actions and assists them in learning behaviors which will aid them in being successful members of the Wittenberg community. The director is also responsible for coordinating all aspects of the University Hearing Board and serves as the deputy Title IX coordinator for cases involving students. The director collaborates with the Title IX coordinator on education and implementation of policies and procedures related to sexual misconduct and gender related violence. This is a full-time, exempt-level position, reporting to the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life.

    The Student Development staff is dedicated to student growth and development outside of the classroom and considers Student Conduct as an integral part of this learning experience. In supporting the learning environment, the Director of Student Conduct should have an understanding of the value of community standards as an integral role that supports the integrity and mission of the University while supporting the developmental needs of each student.

    Essential duties include but are not limited to:

    • Provide leadership and management of interpretation, investigation, and administration of the Student Code of Conduct and other policies and procedures related to student behavior. Promote awareness of campus policies and procedure regarding student conduct.
    • Serve as a hearing officer for alleged violations to the Student Code of Conduct. Communicate with faculty, staff, and students regarding conduct matters and educational initiatives. Offer alternative forms of dispute resolution, when appropriate, and consult with Wittenberg's legal counsel regarding complex higher education legal and regulatory issues.
    • Provide training for University investigators, hearing officers, hearing boards, Residence Life staff, and other staff who administer the policies and procedures of the conduct system within all residential facilities at Wittenberg.
    • Oversee the selection of University Hearing Board student members.
    • Provide direction and oversight for sexual assault and relationship violence prevention programs.
    • Serve as University liaison with the Ohio Department of Higher Education's for ongoing initiatives related to sexual violence and campus climate.
    • Co-Chair Title IX Advisory Committee.
    • Oversee the creation and implementation of educational programs and services in compliance with and consistent with nationwide best practices in the field of student conduct and Title IX.
    • Create and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners.
    • Assess behavioral trends among students and develop new educational programs and interventions to address student misconduct related behaviors.
    • Manage process for all Student Handbook revisions and publication.
    • Serve as the institutional point person working with the student conduct database (Maxient) to ensure accurate collection, reporting, and record keeping of confidential student conduct files and other records.
    • Serve as the Clery Compliance Officer for the Division of Student Development; Co-chair the Bias Incident Response Team; and manage University compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Community Act.
    • Serve in the Student Development on-call rotation assisting with emergencies and critical incidents (Requires that the director live within 30 minutes of campus. Flexibility to discuss options for those living outside the 30 minute requirement).
    • Assist with the exit interview process for students withdrawing from the institution.
    • Serve on the Student Care Team.
    • Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.


    Requirements:

    • A Master's degree in student personnel or related field is required.
    • At least three to five years of experience with progressive management in student conduct or campus discipline required.
    • Knowledge of Title IX is preferred.
    • Candidates should have a commitment to and an understanding of a liberal arts education and diversity.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to support divisional programs and activities.
    • Ability to work with a variety of constituents, solve problems quickly and professionally, anticipate needs, and communicate proactively.
    • Competency and experience using Microsoft Office software with the ability and desire to learn additional software applications as necessary.
    • Be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the work day (up to 8 hours).
    • Some travel expected for professional development.
    • A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures.
