Tool Design Engineering Manager manages the design and development of tools and machinery to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Leads design reviews to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineering Manager provides expert input to resolve design issues and innovate solutions. Oversees the design, fabrication, sourcing, and procurement of fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Additionally, Tool Design Engineering Manager ensures design documentation and models for the fabrication of tools are accurately prepared. The Design Team Manager will manage a team of engineering personnel(data technicians, detailers, designers, technicians, & engineers) responsible for the development of Hammerhead equipment and maintenence of the related documentation. Management of engineering activities within the department will include design, development, testing and production support. Implements and maintains overall engineering objectives and initiatives. Confronts and solves performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency. Will be instrumental in leading and developing the engineering team. Will work closely with product management for delivery of timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. This includes product layout, mechanical design, electronics design, hydraulic and pneumatic system design, selection of components, product bill of material, compliance, integration of different systems, and support of products during their life cycle. The Design Team Manager will report to the Senior Manager, RD&E. Performs other duties as assigned.

Leads the planning, and execution of new product development projects to ensure that the scope is clearly defined, risks are appropriately identified, and plans are put in place to carry the project through to completion.
Develops an annual budget and audits/manages cost performance accordingly for the design team.
Manages design team staffing to ensure functional capability and capacity aligns with business objectives. Distributes workload among team personnel to properly support projects and objectives.
Supports design, detailing, prototype builds and product release
Develops and implements individual, project, and team level measurements to encourage continuous improvement in the growth of individuals for future opportunities and the overall performance of the project and design teams.
Directs the development of products within a Hammerhead product line. Ensures that products are developed with common approaches, are compliant with industry & regulatory standards, and are consistent with the long-term vision for the product line.
Works to foster interdepartmental and intradepartmental information exchange
Reviews and approves engineering change notices
Develops and/or adapts new technologies to support the design of innovative, differentiated, and profitable products for current and future Hammerhead customer applications.
A focus on overall project documentation and information as well as the design output documentation and information. Recommends changes to processes and practices where improvements can be made.
Supports the enhancement of the company’s intellectual property portfolio and ensures that innovative ideas and designs are identified and documented.
Manages multiple projects while balancing groups working on technical issues for several different areas.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electronics engineering, Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
Five years of experience in a Design Team Manager or similar engineering management role
Strong project management skills
ERP experience-SAP preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent leadership, teamwork and people-management skills
Results-driven and action-oriented; positive and energetic
High degree of personal and professional integrity
High level of problem-analysis and resolution skills
Good cost management skills
Strong drive for continuous improvement.
