    The Position:
    Applications are now being accepted for an Assistant Professor of Machine Tool Technology position at San Diego City College beginning Fall 2022. One of the three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus and Hispanic Serving Institution minutes away from the world-class San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and vocational offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. The assignment may include day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus classes.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Teach college-level Machine Technology lecture and laboratory courses applying traditional and alternative pedagogical methods.
    • Develop, modify, and assess relevant curriculum in collaboration with the departments faculty and in accordance with industry standards.
    • Must fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with the District adopted job description and Faculty Appraisal Form outlined in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
    • Participate in Campus and District Committees and coordinate and host at least one Machine Technology Industry Advisory Board meeting each academic year.
    • Participate in departmental and faculty functions including program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, student advisement, training and evaluation of part-time faculty.
    • Maintain currency in the Machine Technology discipline including but not limited to updating skills and knowledge of equipment and software used in the courses.
    • Coordinate and perform (when appropriate) the preventive maintenance of the machine technology equipment used in the campus labs.
    • Participate the in the budget development for the program and collaborate with the department seeking grant funds to supplement the general funds such as spearheading Perkins V and Strong Workforce applications.



    Qualifications:
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
    • Any Bachelors degree AND two (2) years of experience; OR,
    • Any Associate degree AND six (6) years of experience; OR,
    • Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential (valid for life) in Machine Shop & Related Technologies; OR,
    • The equivalent.

    Class 1, Step A - Class 6, Step C ($6,032.90 - $8,128.98) per month based on the current AFT - College Faculty Tenured- Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule

    Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
