    EDUCATION:     

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Bachelor/Master’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Instructional Technology, or related disciplines preferred

     

    EXPERIENCE: 

    • 5 years of experience in Information Technology field involving management/support/maintenance of Technology systems to include analysis of software and database applications; data integrity efforts; network infrastructure, security, technology policy and protocols
    • 3 years of experience in supervision and management of an information systems department
    • Experience/Knowledge of K-12 education environment






















    Position Function/Purpose

    The Executive Director of Technology will plan, provide direction and manage IT operations and resources, including network infrastructure, integration of systems and data, communication systems, hardware/software tools, security and streamline business processes to ensure excellent support to our users (students, parents, teachers, staff and various departments).

    S/he should be a solution-driven, forward-thinking, innovative, self-motivated starter and servant leader; being able to perform tasks with little or no supervision; maintain a proactive attitude when establishing relationships among organization’s personnel.

     

     


    Major Responsibilities

    Technology and Information Management

     

    1.       Plan, provide direction and manage IT operations and resources, including network infrastructure, integration of systems and data, communication systems, hardware/software tools, security and streamline business processes to ensure excellent support to our users (students, parents, teachers, staff and various departments

    2.       Supervise daily operations of network infrastructure, hardware, systems, applications and databases to meet the instructional, operational and administrative needs of the organization.

    3.       Supervise daily operations of Student Information/Data Systems (i.e. Skyward).

    4.       Supervise a program of instructional technology that supports campus and district goals directed toward using technology to support and improve student achievement and teacher efficiency.

    5.       Oversee the planning, evaluation, coordination, implementation, support and management of all technology initiatives, including the maintenance, repair and upgrading of technology systems and devices.

    6.       Lead IT strategic and operational planning by fostering innovation, setting priorities among IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the organization (long range planning)

    7.       Lead the streamlining of business processes/procedures, develop workflow, evaluate best fit technology solution, implement systems, maintain documentation and ensure support.

    8.       Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation of technology processes and procedures.

    9.       Direct, plan, supervise, review and evaluate the activities of the technology staff including daily operations of department, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards and setting deadlines

    10.    Direct daily network and computer operations, verify operational status and security, troubleshoot and take corrective actions

    11.    Lead E-Rate related projects and ensure compliance with all guidelines and requirements.

    12.    Plan and manage IT project plans to coordinate organization-wide technology deployments and implementations.

    13.    Analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, and recommend technical solutions. Design and customize technology systems and platforms to improve customer experiences.

    14.    Coordinate the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and oversee the writing of the technical bid specifications and the evaluation criteria for soliciting appropriate hardware and software vendors.

    15.    Participate in technical work of the department such as network management, programming, information technology operations, and assisting users

    16.    Work with internal and external customers, including students, educators, administrators, school board members, parents, colleagues, vendors and the community.

    17.    Coordinate district technology training.

    18.    Communicate regularly with departmental and campus administration regarding the status of current project initiatives; obtains guidance and approval as required to advance initiatives.

    19.    Demonstrate a commitment of continuous improvement of leadership, technology skills & knowledge.

    Personnel Management

     

    20.    Promote a positive work environment that will result in cooperation and maximum effectiveness on the part of technology personnel.

    21.    Foster a culture of accountability so that all technology staff know what they need to achieve in order to be considered successful.

    22.    Manage the overall recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of department personnel.

    23.    Develop staff training to ensure exemplary operations.

     

    School/Organization Climate

     

    24.    Promote a positive organizational climate by evaluating, planning, communicating and assisting technology users both at the campus and department level.

    25.    Prepare and present program review to board and staff as needed.

    26.    Present and interpret to MISD leadership any changes in technology programs their goals, contents, methods, procedures and materials.

     

    School/Community Relations

     

    27.    Promote a positive tone for collaborating school and user-community relations by articulating the district’s mission to obtain widespread community support and maintain rapport.

    28.    Continually evolve processes and internal support systems to improve productivity, efficiency and utilization.

    29.    Continually improve the quality of the service experience to enhance customer satisfaction.

    30.    Facilitate cross-departmental issue identification, role clarity, barrier removal, problem solving and resolution.

     

    Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

     

    31.    Develop departmental budget based on planned programs and cost analysis; adjust expenditures as needed.

    32.    Participate in the research of and application for technology-related grants or revenue sources.

    33.    Manage relationships with vendors for sales, service and support of all information systems and technology.

    34.    Coordinate the purchase of all computer hardware, software and supplies.

    35.    Coordinate the disposal of obsolete equipment and replacement when necessary.

    36.    Comply with federal, state, district, and campus policies, and with operating and budgetary procedures and requirements.

    37.    Follow organization safety protocols and emergency procedures.

     

    Professional Growth and Development

     

    38.    Improve leadership skills through professional development activities to update knowledge of contents, programs, methods, outside proposals and state/federal guidelines.

    39.    Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments, district appraisal process, evaluative feedback from line supervisors, and professional development programs to improve performance.

    40.    Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.

    41.    Keep informed of developments in state, federal, and local laws and public policy affecting education and public school procedures.

    42.    Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for department effectiveness.

    Qualification Requirements

        Special Knowledge/Skills:

    ? Familiarity with local and wide area network design and implementation

    ? Ability to prioritize simultaneous activities, with appropriate follow through and issue resolution

    ? Effective organizational, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

    ? Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical internal clients

    ? Knowledge of current trends and developments in information technology

    ? Ability to interpret relevant policies and procedures

    ? Must be well versed in the E-Rate funding initiative and familiar with federal and state grants

    ? Ability to design and maintain telecommunications network

    ? Ability to work well with a diverse population
