Develops quality, performance, and safety standards and processes for construction projects and operations. Being a Top Construction Executive manages financial processes like forecasting, estimating, budgeting, and cost control to ensure profitability. Builds effective teams and the capacity to estimate, scope, design, plan, organize and implement construction projects. Additionally, Top Construction Executive represents the organization in discussions and negotiations with clients, contractors, governmental or regulatory officials, and other stakeholders. Identifies risk and implements insurance and risk control strategies. Monitors costs and timelines to deliver projects on time and within budget. Evaluates and implements new or innovative construction methods and systems to improve efficiency, productivity, and project outcomes. Requires a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field. Typically reports to top management. The Top Construction Executive manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact. Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.     The Commercial Lines Key Accounts department is currently seeking an experienced underwriter to actively engage with agents and brokers to manage a book of new and renewal business in the assigned multi-state territory under limited general supervision. This position could reside in home office in the hybrid work model or be field based working out of the home, within the territory.

    Pay range: $100,000 - $176,000; depending on knowledge, skills, expertise, and territory.

    Current open territories are:

    Montana/Idaho

    Washington/Oregon

    Nebraska/Kansas/North Dakota/South Dakota and Wyoming

    North Carolina/South Carolina and Georgia

    Georgia/Florida

    Be ready to:

    • able to collaborate with construction industry and talk about issues and their potential impact on the insurance industry
    • pro-actively engage in accounts in the assigned territory and work with management to strategically grow within the territory
    • through the field marketing reps, strategically engage with partner agents that drive revenue with Key Account size business by promoting our company's products and services
    • evaluate and document contractor exposures and controls, analyze actuarial loss models using a layered and excess loss approach
    • price business to achieve positive returns within the framework of the organization's risk appetite
    • effectively negotiate renewals to achieve business unit goals, including rate/retention dynamics and policy terms and conditions
    • develop and execute stewardship service plans addressing claims, loss control and RMIS service needs
    • understand the agency planning process and impact of contingency/supplemental commission arrangements
    • collaborate with and mentor less experienced underwriters

    Be equipped with:

    • five years of underwriting experience, preferably with a focus on the construction sector
    • excellent oral and written communication skills
    • strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities
    • working knowledge of large account marketing and underwriting, including awareness of loss sensitive programs, familiarity with collateral concepts, wrap-ups and other contractor specific coverage is desired
    • analytical and critical-thinking skills
    • understanding of portfolio management and ability to balance growth and profit dynamics to achieve company targets
    • self-starter with creative thinking and an ability to create opportunity
    • willingness to travel

    You've earned:

    • college degree preferred
    • CPCU/other designations preferred
