Top Corporate Security Executive develops the overall security strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the physical safety of all visitors, employees, or customers to the organization's facilities and the security of property and assets. Establishes auditing and inspection protocols to assess, identify, and mitigate any security vulnerabilities or gaps. Being a Top Corporate Security Executive plans and prepares for crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence, and other emergency events. Assesses systems, alarms, and other physical security measures for effectiveness. Additionally, Top Corporate Security Executive designs and delivers company education programs on security policies and topics to ensure staff is adequately informed and equipped to manage potential security issues. Participates in local, state, provincial, or federal working or advisory groups to keep abreast with all security-related information, directives, and events. Leads and directs major investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials or agencies. Possess broad and deep knowledge of law enforcement methods, tactics, and procedures. Requires a bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or related discipline. Typically reports to top management. The Top Corporate Security Executive manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments.     Minimum Requirements: 

    • 8 years of leadership in a business development/sales role 
    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Sales, or related commercial subjects preferred 
    • Strong understanding of the venture capital and capital markets ecosystems and market participants 
    • Knowledge of the legal and professional services sectors within the venture capital and capital markets ecosystems – highly desirable 
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
    • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities 
    • Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions 
    • Strategic awareness of business and commercial issues 
    • Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimal supervision 
    • Project management skills, and aptitude for developing these skills 
    • Strong executive presence and ability to influence others 
    • A high degree of attention to detail 
    • Hardworking and diligent with a keen understanding of client demands 
    • Demonstrated composure when dealing with difficult situations

    What would your day look like: 
    We are searching for a Client Development Executive – Corporate to work closely with our nationally ranked U.S. Emerging Growth and Venture Capital and Capital Markets Partners to drive DLA Piper’s market-facing sales initiatives. You will assist in identifying new opportunities and will play a strategic role in expanding key client relationships.  You will work in close collaboration with the firm’s partners, business development, and marketing professionals, you will own core elements of the strategic plan for this important and rapidly growing practice. Metrics for success include both quantitative data and qualitative feedback from internal and external stakeholders.  


    Your primary focus will be to prioritize and drive new strategic clients and relationships, raise the firm’s profile with venture capital funds, venture-backed entrepreneurs and investment banks, and serve as a trusted advisor to DLA Piper attorneys and clients by building and leveraging your industry knowledge and relationships.  You will join an elite team of former company and investment fund executives who are in similar roles and focused on developing other strategic sectors for the Firm.     

    Core responsibilities:

    • Building and cultivating long term relationships with entrepreneurs, executives, venture capital investment professionals, investment bankers, thought leaders, and other connectors to develop net new client opportunities in the emerging growth and venture capital and capital markets practices; 
    • Collaborating with DLA Piper attorneys to drive new client acquisition and expansion of existing venture capital and capital markets client relationships for DLA Piper in the US; 
    • Advising and guiding current venture-backed clients on strategic growth initiatives, including financing needs and connecting them to potentially relevant investors and capital markets teams; 
    • Managing key client relationships and connecting clients across the DLA Piper platform for cross-collaborative opportunities globally; 
    • Creating, nurturing, and maintaining a network of venture capital investors, entrepreneurs and investment bankers; 
    • Serving as a source of venture capital and capital markets thought leadership both internally and externally; 
    • Serving as an ambassador for DLA Piper at major venture capital and capital markets programs and events and helping craft and lead such events and sponsorships; 
    • Actively supporting and attending high-level client events, sponsorships, and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes and increase ROI (e.g., CEO dinners, high-profile CLE programs, etc.); 
    • Creating actionable individual business development plans for a select group of partners; 
    • Partnering with other market-facing team members on increasing connectivity and cross-collaborating opportunities within the venture capital, capital markets and venture-backed company ecosystem; and 
    • Serving as an internal business development coach to our attorneys.

    Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements  
    Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.  


    The expected annual pay range for this position, if hired to work in New York City is $189,950 - $289,695 per year. If hired to work in Palo Alto the expected annual pay range is $198,209 - $302,291 per year. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
