Description
The Controller will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and be responsible for General Accounting, Business Office, Registration and HIM departments. S/he will maintain the existing accounting systems, assist in the evaluation and implementation of new systems, and special projects as directed. The position requires an individual who is detail-oriented, enthusiastic, self-motivated, works well with others, multi-tasks and willing to accept new challenges as they arise
Requirements
A. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business field required. Master’s and/or CPA highly desirable.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to operate business office equipment including personal computers and possess good computer skills.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: None required.
D. Experience:
1. Prior Work Experience: Five or more years’ experience in health care accounting/finance in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) including supervisory experience required. Prefer someone familiar with the Cerner (Community Works) and Multiview Hospital Information System.
2. Technical Training: Office equipment and computer training desirable.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing, some bending, stooping, and reaching required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 40 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Performs financial management duties:
1. Maintains accurate financial records of the hospital in a current status.
2. Utilizes an accounting system that meets the needs of the hospital.
3. Provides required financial reports and statements to administration.
4. Maintains the General Ledger on a day-to-day transaction basis posting various adjustments to the ledger and preparing a monthly closeout.
5. Prepares the monthly financial reports and cash flow
Statements and annual Audit and Cost Report schedules for external Auditors/Cost Report Preparers.
6. Closes out all General Ledger accounts and runs the end of month reports including the Trial Balance and Detail of Accounts reports.
7. Maintains fixed assets records and depreciation records.
8. Runs comparative Departmental Financial Statements monthly
9. Provides financial support and information to other hospital departments.
10. Assists the CFO with the organizational budget process.
11. Assists the CFO and Administrator in the Capital
Expenditure Process and in any Special Projects.
12. Records checks and deposits in the checkbook ledger and reconciles accounts monthly manually and in the computer system.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
A. Provides financial guidance for the total organization.
B. Provides services direct to Department managers and
Board Members while maintaining a positive customer relations atmosphere.
C. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
D. Follows safety guide lines and policies for the Hospital District.
