This Public Health Informaticist 2 serves as the Nursing Informatics Specialist for the Alaska Division of Public Health. As the Nursing Informatics Specialist, you’ll be the mastermind behind enhancing our nursing information systems across Alaska. Your expertise will be crucial in our journey of continuous improvement and excellence in Public Health Nursing. Nursing Informatics is a specialty that integrates nursing science, information science, and computer science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice and facilitates the integration of data, information, and knowledge to support clients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making. You do not need to know the nuances of nursing science to join us. In partnership with the Nurse Consultant 2, you will provide content expertise for statewide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Section of Public Health Nursing (SOPHN) nursing information management systems and the quality assurance/quality improvement program.

    Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree from an accredited college in public health, health administration, nursing, epidemiology, health sciences, health education, community health, emergency medical services, psychology, the social sciences, social work, computer sciences, biostatistics/statistics, business management, public administration, operations management, education, the biological sciences, the physical sciences, or a closely related field.
    AND EITHER
    One year of specific experience providing circumscribed consultation and advisory services related to either less complex public health-related information management systems or segments of larger, more complex systems. This experience is equivalent to a Public Health Informaticist 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
    OR
    Four years of any combination of experience administering or providing specialized health care or public health services, programs, and/or health care information management systems support that provides the appropriate level of knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and theory of the relevant health specialty and/or operational area(s) associated with the position to be filled. Service as an Analyst/Programmer or Research Analyst, or similar job class may qualify if the work performed was specifically related to the collection, analysis, and maintenance of data concerning conditions of public health importance, such as incidence/prevalence of disease or injuries, social risk factors, behavioral risk factors, environmental risk factors, and/or demographic characteristics.
