    Clackamas Community College (CCC) at the Oregon City, Oregon campus seeks to hire a full-time permanent position in our Science Department starting in fall 2024.     College and Division:

    The Science Department resides in the Arts & Sciences Division. As a division we are one of four Instructional and Student Support divisions at CCC. The four divisions are: Academic Foundations and Connections (AFAC), Arts and Sciences (A & S), Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IEP) and Technology, Applied Science and Public Services (TAPS). The Arts and Sciences Division includes nine departments: Art; Business & Computer Science; Communication, Theater & Journalism; Horticulture; Music; Science; Social Sciences; Water Engineering Technology; and World Languages.

    Science Department
    :

    The Science Department uses a lead instructor model where the lead instructor or instructors work collaboratively to provide class, lab, and online content across all class sections. CCC offers a wide range of life and physical science courses for science majors and non-majors. There is one full-time geology instructor position in the department. A successful candidate will be a creative, collaborative, and participatory faculty member with an expertise in geology and who brings a passion for teaching and a desire to support and mentor CCC students.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Instruction & Related Assignments
    • Teaches college-level lecture and laboratory courses in geology which includes conducting and leading field-based experiences.
    • Communicates regularly to students about their progress and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner.
    • Leads assessment processes for Geology and General Science, and updating courses and curriculum based on assessment results, curriculum review cycles, or externally mandated changes in programs.
    • Regularly participates in department, division, and college meetings as well as participating in committee work.
    • Consults with students about their course, program, resources at the college, and potential careers.
    • Prepares and cleans labs for Geology and General Science. Works with lab staff to order supplies.
    • Engages in activities that enhance the department's rapport with area high schools, industry partners, and four-year institutions and that build the department's ability to offer college credit to high school partners.
    • Coordinates curriculum and instruction with associate geology faculty.
    • Actively seeks out professional growth opportunities.

    Qualifications




    Minimum Qualifications
    • M.S. in geology or M.S. in a closely related field (examples include but are not limited to Earth Science, Geoscience, and Oceanography) with at least 30 graduate credit hours (quarter basis) in geology course work from an accredited institution.
    • One year of full-time teaching experience (or the equivalent in part-time hours), teaching geology. (A portion of the required teaching experience may be met by substantial graduate school TA experience.)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience teaching college geology classes and labs, including field-based experiences.
    • Teaching experience in geology that supports student success in a diverse student body such as that found in a community college.
    • Experience with designing and/or delivering courses with online elements and the use of learning management systems such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.
    • Experience with curriculum development and management.
    • Evidence of innovative and diverse teaching methods and technologies to support teaching and learning in a dynamic educational environment.
    • Experience with student-centered evaluation and authentic student learning outcome assessment practices.
    • Effective classroom and laboratory management, including facilitating/navigating challenging conversations.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

    Works under the general direction of the Dean of Arts & Sciences.

    Additional Information:

    The successful candidate in this position will work a 10-month contract and be paid for 175 days including six (6) paid holidays, per the Full-Time Faculty Bargaining Agreement.


    Starting Salary Expectations:

    Initial Salary Placement will be Step 3 ($77,041 annually) per the CCC Full-time Faculty bargaining agreement.

    Benefits:

    • CCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. CCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
    • CCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at CCC for yourself, domestic partner, and IRS dependents; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.
    • CCC qualifies as a public employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.


    Terms of Employment:
    • All positions at CCC are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
    • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
    • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials from a regionally accredited institution, or the equivalent, as recognized by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) or National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
    • Your official transcripts will need to be sent from the Registrar of your degree granting institution within 30-days of your hire.
    • Employees must maintain metro Portland, Oregon or Vancouver, Washington residency as a condition of employment.
    • CCC does not support employment visas.
