Overview of the Communications Specialist Position: Under limited supervision, plans, develops and implements a communications or outreach program and/or public relations plan for the Georgia Department of Corrections. Leads and develops strategic planning efforts and creates/develops professional communication materials. Writes and publishes web-based communications and social media content to shape public perception of agency to increase awareness of its work and goals. May assist in the planning and coordination of agency internal and external events and other projects. This position will require some after hours, possible weekend work, and some travel. Salary will be considered commensurate with experience and the position is a hybrid of in-person and telework.
Public Affairs Office: The Office of Public Affairs is the agency's point of contact for all media inquiries from local, state and national news organizations, as well as external stakeholders and inter-agency customers. PAO is responsible for the promotion and protection of the agency’s reputation, which includes the use of nontraditional media engagement and direct interaction with both internal and external customers. Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be give to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
- Maintains the agency’s social media platforms including content, planning, posting and monitoring to ensure consistent and engaging messaging.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimum supervision.
- Identifies and continually evaluates agency’s social media communication strategy utilizing metrics.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with direct responsibility managing professional social media platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of Mac computers
- Must be detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.
- Ability to interface with co-workers and management at all levels.
- Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively with others in a team or group.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Previous experience working in a government environment a plus.
