    POSITION DUTIES

    The Government Affairs Associate is an integral member of the team and is essential in achieving the core mission of the department and the agency. They are responsible for supporting all members of the Government Affairs department, including state affairs and intergovernmental affairs. This role is responsible for supporting the work of the office to ensure things are done effectively, accurately, on schedule, and in coordination with internal members of the Comptroller’s Office, members of the Maryland General Assembly, local governments, and federal government partners.� No two days will look the same in this role and you will have your hands in many different projects, initiatives, and tasks.� Some areas where you will play a leading role include maintaining awareness of legislative activities that impact the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland (COM), conduct research regrading policy and legislation relevant to the COM, prepare testimony and talking points on relevant legislation and initiatives, draft prep memos and background briefings for relevant parties, engage stakeholders relevant to the COM, assist in meetings with state and local lawmakers, coordinate internal logistics for the government affairs team, among many other tasks.� This role will also provide direct support to all members of the Government Affairs Team and will work closely with other members of the agency. **Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Four years of administrative staff or professional work. Notes: Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience. ** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at�http://www.naces.org/members.html.

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A familiarity with the operations of Maryland state and local government.� A Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from the US Armed Forces.�� Excellent written and oral communication skills. The ability to professionally interact with stakeholders from different backgrounds. The ability to work under fast deadlines and quick turnaround times. This position may be required to work irregular hours on evenings and weekends, especially during the Legislative Session (January-April).�

    Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
