    The opportunity:

    The Underwriting Senior Consultant reports into FullscopeRMS Underwriting Management and is responsible for the evaluation and selection of risk as well as the establishment of premium levels that ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the continued profitable retention of inforce cases within the assigned case size levels. This position will assist in the training, technical development and mentoring of a group of highly professional underwriters.

    How you will contribute:

    Risk Management: Support the development of an organization focused on high quality risk assessment. This requires the incumbent to:

    • Make appropriate risk, premium and business decisions, and exceptions on all cases within assigned limits

    • Analyze and identify early and ongoing risk trends for assigned clients and make appropriate recommendations for addressing these

    • Develop personal credibility as a subject matter expert and go to resource on complex issues with clients and peers

    • Provide developmental feedback on case level decisions within the context of a mentoring relationship

    • Independently make financial risk decisions of up to $500,000 within defined guidelines

    Teamwork: Support the achievement of FullscopeRMS as well as client goals. This requires the incumbent to:

    • Utilize technical expertise in risk selection

    • Apply solid understanding of client's strengths and weaknesses

    • Develop selection and retention of client customers through accurate risk assessment and appropriate premium levels that meet profit, persistency and sales objectives Focus on the client's case level sales

    • Provide mentoring and coaching of underwriting staff

    • Demonstrate decisiveness, creativity, and superiority in risk selection so that the most competitive, equitable and appropriate decision is made for each client's case Deliver dependable, accurate, timely service and build strong relationships with all clients

    What you will bring with you:

    • Minimum 5-10 years of group insurance underwriting experience required; college degree preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required.

    • Mastery of disability products including product provisions, plan design, pricing, and contractual benefits

    • Knowledge of the reinsurance process

    • Knowledge of complex insurance risk issues and dynamics

    • Demonstrated knowledge of industry and marketplace trends within the local marketplace for assigned clients

    • Creative problem solving and analytical reasoning skills

    • Strong math aptitude

    • Strong mentoring and coaching skills

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and to negotiate

    • Ability to give presentations and speak in a public setting

    • Ability to work independently and address problems through own initiative and creativity

    • Well organized and able to handle multiple priorities

    • Strong computer skills, proficient in a PC environment and MS Word, Excel, and email systems

    • Ability to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, claimants, vendors, and others with whom DRMS does business

    • Southern region: $82,300 - 123,500 annually

    • Central region: $86,800 - 130,200 annually

    • Northern region: $92,700 - 139,100 annually

    If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $78,600 - 117,900 annually.

    If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $92,700 - 139,100 annually.

    If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $86,800 - 130,200 annually.
