Summary:
The Executive Management Officer (EMO) is an integral member of the leadership team, serving as a special assistant and advisor to executive management. The EMO, reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), manages the detailed and complex analysis of issues affecting the organization relative to public policy & advocacy, federal and state legislative affairs, specialized grants oversight & management, and other special projects. The position builds relationships with local, state, and federal lawmakers and leverages those relationships for the protection of laws and funding that support employment and services for people with disabilities; advocates for the equal inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce and community spaces; and fosters community support for the Lighthouse’s mission. The successful incumbent in this position is an innovative, enthusiastic individual capable of working independently to assist with the implementation of policies and procedures necessary to achieve the organization’s goals and carry out the Lighthouse mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree required; degree in public policy, political science, business, or communications a plus.
· Special Knowledge or Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills; Must be able to communicate complex subjects clearly; Ability to communicate well at all levels, including legislators, employers, and other partners; Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously; Strong business acumen and legislative affairs awareness; Outstanding people skills to build and cultivate relationships; Excellent leader who can work under pressure; Good knowledge of public policy; Proficient computer skills using business productivity tools ; Excellent working knowledge of diverse media platforms to advance objectives; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to effectively manage projects & grant activity.
· Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience; Preferred experience of at least two years in managing public policy or experience in a nonprofit leadership position; or at least 2 years in managing business strategies and special projects; Direct experience in managing grants a plus. Consideration given to less management experience in combination with advocacy & public policy experience.
· Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise grants staff, special projects staff, and employee advocates.
· Physical: Able to review print & electronic materials, move about in the community, lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and sit for extended periods. Able to travel throughout the facility to manage all work responsibilities, breaks, and emergency evacuations, with or without reasonable accommodation safely and effectively. Able to manage all self-care needs and activities of daily living as required to support successful employment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Personality: Professional, confident, able to maintain confidentiality, detail-oriented, organized, self-starter, learning orientation.
· Working Conditions: Inside office and community. Some travel required.
· Work Schedule: Full-time/Non-Exempt. 40 hours weekly, some evening events and travel.
