Position Details

• Title: Public Relations Intern
• Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, varies
• Department/Branch: Communications at the Library Service Center
• Schedule: Can be flexible, but may include day, evening, or weekend hours
• Compensation: Unpaid

A successful candidate will…

• Be a student enrolled in college/university curriculum, preferably in a Communications, Public Relations, Mass marketing program.
• Hold a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of the internship.
• Have reliable transportation.
• Have some weekend and evening availability.
• Have some customer service experience.
• Have basic computer and internet skills including MS 365, Teams, Airtable, Sharepoint.
• Have a desire and enthusiasm to learn.
• Multilingual a plus

What does the job look like?

• Writing copy – press releases, monthly media releases, Latina community notifications, etc.
• Attend community meetings as a library representative – share library program information with community leaders.
• Conduct media interviews during special event media days.
• Seek out, schedule, confirm, and host media appearances.
• Support work on the evolving Library magazine.
• Developing/executing a mass communications plan/campaign.
• Provide a variety of clerical and/or technical tasks in support of assigned functions, including data entry, filing, event summary/analysis, etc.
