  • Pacific Coast Producers, a leading private-label food processing company headquartered in Northern California, is seeking a Purchasing Agent at its Fruit Processing Operation in Oroville, CA. This position will be responsible for purchasing ingredients, packaging, supplies, and services by researching, negotiating, and ordering for the facility. Additionally, will examine existing procedures and opportunities for streamlining activities to reduce cost, meet product requirements, and production needs and will direct the movement and storage of supplies inventory.

    Essential Purchasing Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Purchase products and services by processing purchase requisitions in a timely and economical manner.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of purchasing and receiving.
    • Receive and record incoming products to the Salem plant.
    • Research and resolve disputes on inaccurate invoices.
    • Review or update supply chain practices in accordance with new or changing environmental policies, standards, regulations or laws.
    • Develop material costs forecasts and/or standard costs lists.
    • Monitor and analyze top spend categories or spend analysis to identify areas of cost savings.
    • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers and vendors.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as Technical Services and QA, to identify or qualify new suppliers.
    • Monitor supplier performance to assess ability to meet quality and delivery requirements through score cards and on-site audits.
    • Develop or implement procedures or systems to evaluate or select suppliers and maintain approved supplier log.
    • Collaborate with Sales, R&D and Production Scheduling to identify changes and determine their effects on supply chain activities.
    • Confer with Sales and Production Scheduling to forecast demand or create supply plans that ensure availability of materials or products.
    • Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, to provide performance feedback, or to discuss production forecasts or changes.
    • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service.
    • Participate in the coordination of R&D changes, product line extensions, or new product launches to ensure orderly and timely transitions in materials or production flow.
    • Manage the process of label changes between internal Sales department and label suppliers; label design, layouts, materials, delivery timeframes, etc.
    • Monitor commodity markets and keep management informed of market changes for planning purposes.
    • Interface effectively with production, warehousing, customer service, and sales to enhance accuracy of inventory and reduce errors in meeting customer orders.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


    • Bachelor’s degree in business or related area and/or 3 years purchasing experience, preferably in the food industry.
    • Displays excellent communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrates strong leadership skills; ability to work effectively with internal customers and external parties.
    • Proficient in MS Office; Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
    • Strong organizational skills and attentive to details; able to effectively manage concurrent projects and meet established deadlines.
