    Verbatim Hearing Recorder (VHR)/ Typist (Hearing Recorder)

    US Citizen/ Permanent Resident (Green Card)

    StratComm, Inc. manages Verbatim Hearing Recorder (VHR) services for the Social Security Administration's (SSA) Office of Hearing Operations (OHO).

    Summary:

    We are seeking a detail-oriented Verbatim Hearing Recorder (VHR) to accurately digitally capture and type a summary of spoken content during Social Security Disability Benefits Appeal Hearings. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional listening and typing skills, a keen eye for detail, and a strong ability multitask and work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. As a VHR, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and complete records of spoken content are captured for legal, administrative, or historical purposes.

    Responsibilities:

    • Attend SSA disability hearings for the SSA, OHO, using specialized recording equipment and software (Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams/ Skype).
    • Typing skills of at least 40 words
    • Maintain organized and secure records of recorded content, always ensuring confidentiality and data security.
    • Provide excellent customer service to clients, representatives, attorneys, judges, and other participants.
    • If IT issues arise during set up, the VHR shall notify the appropriate contact at OHO immediately.
    • Open the hearing room.
    • Start up Government-furnished hearing recording equipment.
    • Complete a test recording to ensure the recording equipment is functioning correctly.
    • Arrive on-site at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the first hearing.
    • Initiate contact with the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) via Skype at least 15 minutes prior to the start of first hearing.
    • The VHR shall annotate the digital recording in English throughout the hearing in order to provide an index of events during the hearing process. At a minimum, the VHR shall make a digital annotation every time there is a change of speaker.
    • Dress and carry yourself in a professional manner.
    • Refrain from visible or audible reaction to any actions or statement by claimants, their representatives, Vocational Expert (VE), Medical Expert (ME) or the ALJ.
    • The VHR shall turn in close-out documents at the end of the day of scheduled hearings.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or documented equivalent such as a G.E.D.
    • Excellent communications skills
    • Proficiency in typing with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
    • Excellent listening skills and the ability to capture and summarize spoken content in real-time, noting change of speakers is preferred.
    • Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and language conventions.
    • Detail-oriented mindset and exceptional organizational skills.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with legal professionals, the SSA client and other stakeholders.
    • Respect for confidentiality and a commitment to maintaining data security.
    • Operate recording software (DRAP) equipment.
    • Operate computer programs such as MS TEAMS, MS WORD, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Skype
    • Perform basic activities on computer, including saving files.
    • Operate telephone and video equipment.
    • Properly annotate on the VHR Worksheet what exhibits were admitted into evidence at the hearing by the ALJ and document if there were or were not any objections.
