The purpose of this position is to provide social services to children and their families where child abuse and/or neglect have been reported and/or substantiated. This position is hired through Beaver County.



    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    The person hired for this position must be able to work with diverse populations, those of varying socioeconomic levels and families with multi-system concerns using a strength-based approach. Caseworkers may be placed into various units within the agency such as: intake, on-going services, teen services, intensive services, placement and permanency. All units require excellent organizational skills, computer adeptness and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Criminal and child abuse background checks are required. The position may require the employee to work irregular hours, including some weekends.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    • Full-time employment.
    • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
      • The work hours include mandatory travel time, overtime, and after-hours work.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
    • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
    • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
    • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
    • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

    Other Requirements:
    • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
    • Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Beaver, Allegheny, Butler, Lawrence, and Washington County. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Legal Requirements:
    • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
    • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
      • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
