    The City of Steamboat Springs is pleased to announce a part-time job opening in our Municipal Court Division for a Municipal Court Assistant! Put your talents and skills to work to contribute to our vibrant community!

    The primary function of this position is to assist the Municipal Court Administrator involving financial, clerical, and technical work. This work is performed with moderate supervision and requires considerable use of independent judgment, discretion, and decision-making abilities. Must be self -motivated.
     
    This position requires schedule flexibility to allow coverage of time off for Court Administrator and court night coverage. Approximately 10 hours per week, with occasional coverage for the Municipal Court Administrator’s time off. 
     
    SUPERVISION RECEIVED
    Works under the direct supervision of the Municipal Court Administrator and the Municipal Court Judge with a great deal of latitude.

    None.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assists the Municipal Court Administrator with some or all of the following duties:
    • Provides excellent customer service and general information concerning the court to the public. May include interaction with Prosecution, Defendants, Witnesses, Jurors, and Defense Counsel.
    • Serves as assistant to the Clerk of the Court, sets up courtroom and records proceedings. Ensures orderly courtroom operations.
    • May record and enter into court data base summons and complaints issued into this court from Steamboat Springs Police Department. May maintain docket for bi-monthly first appearance sessions.
    • May assist in the maintenance of legal records of court proceedings; recording all rulings, findings, pleas and sentences; preparing and processing all required documents; accounting for the accuracy and completeness of all files.
    • May process parking ticket dispositions, payments, failure to pay records, and collections interfacing.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    1. Graduate with at least an Associate’s Degree plus experience in clerical, paralegal, journalism or administrative work.
    2. Any equivalent combination of education and experience listed in (A).
    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    1. Considerable knowledge of general office procedures; working knowledge of legal language and procedures or willingness to learn; competent command of the written word.
    2.  Some knowledge of basic financial practices.
    3. Ability to effectively communicate on a one-to-one basis with the public and effectively handle conflict;
    4. Ability to maintain accurate records, type and enter data accurately.
    5. Ability to work evening hours twice per month required.
    Must pass a background check.EOE.

    Compensation range is $19.59 - $27.43/hour and placement within the range is dependent upon relevant experience and qualifications.
