Work Unit Overview: MMIA is a risk retention pool created by the cities and towns of Montana to manage their municipal risks including municipal liability, workers' compensation, and property and to provide employee benefit coverage. MMIA also provides services and resources to members through the Risk Management and Member Services department. The MMIA finance staff also provides services to the Montana League of Cities and Towns (MLCT), and Treasure State Public Captive, Inc. (TSPC).
Job Summary: The Accounting Associate performs a variety of routine accounting and financial administration tasks for the MMIA professional staff and member communities.

Monitor certified mail for large payments.

Post MMIA, MLCT, and TSPC cash receipts as assigned, in accordance with established procedures.

Issues invoices via accounting system as assigned.

Issue claims payments for the Workers Comp, Liability, and Property programs in accordance with established procedures.

Collect data from various sources and update numerous financial tracking spreadsheets as assigned.

Prepare and file annual W2s, 1094, 1095-B, 1099s for assigned entities.

Enter accounts receivable and cash receipts with correct coding into accounting system for assigned entities.

Download monthly bank statements and stores to electronic files.

Assist with various period end reporting duties.

Prepares monthly account reconciliations and related adjusting entries as assigned.

Process payroll as assigned, including review of all reports for federal and state entities.

Act as backup for other accounting personnel as needed.

Assists with annual entity /program audits as assigned.

Assist the MMIA and MLCT Boards, management and staff with miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Review current processes and make recommendations to improve efficiencies and internal controls.

Assist in onboarding and orientation of new hires and off-boarding of terminating employees.

Performs other tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience:

Requires High School Diploma or GED
-
Preferred demonstrated financial, accounting, or bookkeeping experience and/or formal education.
