Traffic Director leads and directs the traffic department to efficiently and safely move materials and products to designated destinations. Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize delivery costs. Being a Traffic Director evaluates and selects appropriate transportation carriers and routes. Resolves delivery issues for both internal and external customers. Additionally, Traffic Director monitors, analyzes, and reviews loss and damage claims and makes recommendations for improved safety. Oversees costs and processes to adhere to budgets. Ensures compliance with all DOT/OSHA guidelines. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Traffic Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Traffic Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. As a Traffic Engineer, you will be responsible for a variety of projects, taking ownership from start to finish.

     

    Responsibilities, Expectations, and Duties: 

    • Work as part of a traffic team under the direction of the Project Engineer/Manager on a variety of traffic forecasting, analysis and design needs for a variety of transportation projects
    • Conduct operational traffic analysis using a variety of modeling tools, ranging from highway capacity software to complex micro simulation models analyze everything from isolated intersections and roundabouts to urban arterials and freeway segments
    • Perform complex traffic engineering tasks, exercise sound engineering judgment, prepare traffic impact analysis reports
    • Make decisions on design and engineering procedures as needed
    • Function as a technical specialist on mid-size projects
    • Perform other duties as needed
    • Manage multiple traffic tasks and projects within scope, schedule, and budget
    • Prepare clear and accurate technical reports, construction plans, specifications and estimates from start to finish

     

     Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies: 

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
    • Engineer-In-Training (EIT)
    • 0-2 years traffic analysis and traffic engineering design
    • Experience using AutoCAD, Civil3D, Microstation, OpenRoads or other CAD design software
    • Hands-on experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, VISTRO, and/or VISSIM
    • Excellent communication, written and organizational skills
    • Ability to multitask while working on many projects at once
    • Work cooperatively with other team members, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers
