    THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO FILL TWO (2) VACANCIES.
    The duty station for this position is in King County, therefore the incumbent will receive 5%
    premium pay in addition to the salary listed above.
    Time spent actively training earns an additional $10 per hour.
    The Opportunity:
    The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) is seeking dynamic leaders to train criminal justice professionals. These positions serve as a Law Enforcement Trainer focused on coordinating and conducting Washington State’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy programs under the direction of the Basic Training Division Commander and Assistant Commander. The incumbents will be a lead trainer, logistics coordinator, and evaluator of the industry’s best practice curricula related to Basic Law Enforcement training.     Duties

    Duties assigned to these positions include (but are not limited to):


    • Lead and facilitate instruction (classroom, practical, and mock scenarios) using approved curriculum for Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) classes.
    • Train and mentor students guided by WSCJTC agency values and maintain order within the academy atmosphere.
    • Mentor and support contracted Teaching, Advising, and Counseling (TAC) Officers and part-time contractors in leading academy classes.
    • Communicate with student’s employing agencies regarding performance, attendance, coordination of additional training needs, test failures and remedial training.
    • Act as subject matter expert in updating curriculum and in identifying appropriate curriculum documentation for record request responses.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:


    • At least five (5) years of experience in law enforcement in an assignment that may require the application of physical force. -OR-
    • At least five (5) years of experience as a trainer of criminal justice personnel (law enforcement, corrections, juvenile corrections) specifically in the areas of de-escalation, patrol tactics, criminal law, criminal procedures, control/defensive tactics, less lethal weapons, and firearms.
    • An understanding of adult teaching and learning methods.
    • At least two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience of criminal justice personnel (law enforcement, corrections, juvenile corrections). Serving as a lead trainer/primary coach/TAC Officer/FTO or PTO are acceptable.
    • No sustained use of force complaints for the past three (3) years.
    • Any community complaints within the last three (3) years must be satisfactorily explained.
    • Able to model the Guardian Philosophy of policing in class on a daily basis.
    • Strong work ethic, self-directed, and able to work in a team-teaching environment.
    • Ability to support the agency's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
    • Effective communication skills.
    Desired Qualifications:
    • Understanding of and/or experience with WSCJTC protocols and chain of command.
    • First level supervisor experience (examples: sergeant, supervisor, manager).
    • WSCJTC Instructor Development - 2 (ID2) certification.
    • Skills in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Knowledge of training and instruction principles, content, and methodology.
    • Knowledge of curriculum development.
    • Problem solving skills, including analysis and strategies.
    • Knowledge of the criminal justice system including federal, state, and local criminal justice agencies, laws, ordinances, and regulations.
    • Knowledge of cultural diversity/implicit bias.
    • Effective at developing and utilizing resources.
