Translator translates written and spoken information from one language to another. Reads, comprehends, and rewrites materials in designated languages following established linguistic rules related to word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. Being a Translator must be well versed in vocabulary dealing with specialty. Must follow ethical procedures and policies that protect the confidentiality of information. Additionally, Translator may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Translator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Description
    • Translates a variety of district communications from English to Spanish and occasionally Spanish to English, for various audiences under tight deadlines
    • Translates emergency documents, including letters and other urgent communications
    • Proofreads and edits to provide the best and most accurate translations
    • Interprets for parents/school personnel as needed at requested meetings, including community, district, special education
    • Attends weekend, evening, and daytime meetings, including Board of Education meetings
    • Travels to district campuses for bilingual personnel facilitation
    • Maintains and provides reports of work completed
    • Compiles database of terminology and information to be used in translations, including technical terms
    • Receives and submits assignments electronically via email or Google Drive
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    Qualifications
    • Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
    • 60 college hours or bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Spanish translator and interpreter in the education field
    • Exceptional communication skills; proficient in reading, writing, and speaking in both English and Spanish.
    • Ability to interpret simultaneously, consecutively and perform sight translations as needed
    • Ability to effectively communicate with parents and school personnel from diverse cultures in English and Spanish
    • Proficiency in applied technology such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Suite, as well as Adobe Suite (preferred);
    • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment with minimal supervision
    • Must be detail oriented and a quick learner
    • Adaptable to sudden schedule changes
