Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides planning and coordination of all facets of clinical care for potential and actual transplant candidates and recipients. Manages referral, evaluation, and pre-transplant data for transplant patients and coordinates the clinical management of post-transplant patients. Being a Transplant Nurse Coordinator develops materials and delivers programs to educate and support patients, families, and clinicians throughout the transplant process. Requires clinical experience in the care and treatment of transplant patients. Additionally, Transplant Nurse Coordinator requires a bachelor's degree of Nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires registered nurse (RN). May require certification from a professional organ transplant nursing certification board. Job Summary:
The BMT Transplant Coordinator assists in the identification and evaluation of patients for blood and marrow transplantation. The BMT Transplant Coordinator serves as a single point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers, enhancing communications among all. Coordination of pre- and post-transplant activities; patient appointments including those made with lab, diagnostic areas, and specialty physicians; data collection and management; and arrangement of financial clearance. The BMT Transplant Coordinator performs physical assessments, and may assist with the administration of protocol medications.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Master’s in a health-related field preferred.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in bone marrow transplantation. Experience as a bone marrow transplant coordinator preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of SC. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. Oncology Nursing Society certification preferred.
