GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION |
The Transportation Operations Director is responsible for directing Transportation Department services by ensuring efficient scheduling and routing of vehicles; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining department needs in compliance with Warrenton Oil Company as a whole. In addition, they are expected to adhere to DOT and company guidelines, codes, and regulations. This position is deemed part of the Critical Response Team. |
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
• Oversee day-to-day transportation operations, including route planning, scheduling, dispatching, and tracking. Ensure compliance with DOT safety regulations, environmental regulations and industry standards. |
• Identify opportunities for optimization and improvement in transportation operations. |
• Provide leadership and direction to the transportation, shop, and sales team. |
• Manage and maintain a fleet of vehicles, ensuring optimal utilization, maintenance, and replacement strategies. |
• Establish and maintain relationships with transportation customers and vendors. Negotiate contracts, rates, and service agreements to optimize transportation services and minimize costs. |
• Implement a comprehensive sales strategy to build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships. Understand customer needs and offer solutions and support that provide value beyond transportation services. |
• Develop and manage transportation budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics. |
• Assess and mitigate transportation-related risks, such as accidents, delays, and disruptions. Develop contingency plans and protocols to minimize operational disruptions and ensure business continuity. |
• Develop and execute a strategic plan for improved technology utilization within transportation operations. |
• Assesses incidents, complaints, etc. (e.g. safety issues, transportation routes, legal issues, department staffing, etc.) for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation. |
• Perform personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, counseling, disciplining, directing, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving department objectives within budget. |
• Communicate fuel pricing, inventories, etc. with our stores as the primary liason between FastLane Retail Operations and the dispatch team. |
• Facilitate and/or participates in meetings and workshops, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff. |
• Prepare a wide variety of written materials (e.g. bid specifications, correspondence, memos, reports, policy/procedures, budget, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information. |
• Give all customers, internal and external, prompt and courteous service. |
• Respond to emergency situations during and after standard hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. |
• Immediately advise the COO and Director of Human Resources of any issues that could negatively impact the Company. |

• Sales experience preferred. |
