    ABOUT THE POSITION

    VHB is seeking a dynamic and talented Transportation Engineer to join our Safety Practice in our Tysons or Metro D.C. office. The selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to plan, design, and analyze new and improved transportation facilities that support and enhance mobility for all transportation modes while reducing crashes, saving lives, and preventing life-changing injuries.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Work within a team of professionals in developing transportation engineering, safety, and planning solutions for multimodal transportation projects
    • Develop creative solutions to address challenging safety and mobility problems in urban, suburban, and rural environments
    • Support project-related documentation for a range of transportation studies, crash analyses, and multi-modal/transit-oriented projects
    • Prepare written documents, summarize data and information collected, and assemble technical reports
    • Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
    • Assist in the facilitation of meetings and preparation of detailed meeting notes
    • Preparation of technical presentations and materials to support public, stakeholder, or client meetings (in-person and virtual)
    • Assist in traffic analysis, concept development, and traffic operations studies
    • Maintain a client-service approach to deliver projects that exceed client expectations

    Qualifications

    • Strong interest in safety and multimodal transportation
    • BS or MS in Civil Engineering, or related field
    • EIT preferred
    • 1-3 years of transportation experience, preferably in a consulting environment
    • Experience with MicroStation/AutoCAD, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Proficiency in some of the following systems: Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, GIS
    • Familiarity with national and/or local transportation engineering standards, including VDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and/or ITE guidance documents
